  • TH Desktop - graphics card question ...

Assuming that I want to keep my triplehead stretched desktop in windows ... assuming that soon the Parhelia will not be able to keep up with the latest games that I will want to play ... and assuming that "the summer" thing also won't do the latest games in Surround ... what are my options ?

A PCI Parhelia for desktop and some other AGP graphics card for games ? ...

    Any suggestions ?
    My Systems :
    Athlon 64 FX-55, 580W-Tagan SLi, Asus A8N SLi Deluxe, 2 x 74Gb WD Raptor 10K RPM RAID, 2 GB Corsair TwinX-XL, 2 x 512Mb PCI-E GF7800GTX SLI, SB Audigy2, Dell 2405FPW.

    P4 3.2GHz - ABIT IC7-G – Matrox Parhelia 128 8x AGP - 2GB 3200 DDR
    480W Whisper Quiet PS - 2 x 160 GB HD - 3 x 19” Viewsonic TFT’s 3840x1024

Does it have to be a stretched desktop, or are three independent desktops OK?

It has to be stretched for three screen gaming, unless the game is designed to work with multiple display adapters. I wonder how the multi-screen/multi computer FlightSim ppl do it? Is the game designed to work like that or do they have some third party hack.
I should have bought an ATI.

I don't think there are any surround gaming solutions other than Parhelia out there. I don't know about stretched desktop, but three separate desktops is easy: Just get any dualhead card you want, and add a cheap PCI singlehead one.

            Thanks for your suggestions ...

I think I didn't make my question very clear ... I was trying to say I am guessing that I am going to have to go back to Singlehead Gaming eventually... but want to have Triplehead Stretched Desktop.

            Would this work ? ...

Parhelia PCI for Triplehead Stretched Desktop and a Singlehead AGP for Gaming.

it could be, but be prepared to rip your hairs at the times. (it won't be problem free in any case.)
nVidia now supports stretched desktop, but they do not have any cards with 3 heads. (and with multiple cards you cannot have stretched desktop. just extended desktop.)

afaik, ATI still does not support stretched mode. only clone and extended.

I think it would be best to have a multi monitor workstation with parhelia and a separate gaming rig with gaming card from nV or Ati (unless Matrox comes with something that will be on par performance wise in the future).

Otherwise, PCI Parhelia would be too expensive and would not offer stretched desktop. You could have 4 monitors, 3 of which would be on Parhelia and stretched.

Check out ultramon and try a cheap PCI card with AGP parhelia to see how this works. (you can buy Millennium PCI for like 5 Euros, just to try it out).

But IMO 2 rigs (1 for gaming, 1 for work) are best solution if you want Matrox. I know a few people on various fora, who use Parhelia or P750 in main workstation and R9700/9800 in gaming rig.

                    Hello UtwigMU,
I have two comps already ... One has TH Parhelia 8x ... the other has a 9800 Pro...

I was looking for a solution in one rig ......
