  • Matrox G100 D3D and G200 OpenGL question

K... I have owned a few MAtrox cards over the years (Mystique220, M3D, G450) and have just picked up a Millenium G200 for my DAW and a couple of G100's to build newer pc's for the kids.

Here's what I want to know:

    1. Did Matrox ever write a proper OpenGL ICD for the G200? I remember this being an issue back when it was new.

    2. I remember the G100's having some sort of 3D accelleration; better than the Mystique220 but not as good as the G200. While I don't expect OpenGL to be supported, what can I expect, performance-wise, out of it? (I'm replacing my 2 oldest's kids pc's, one of whom is using my old Mystique220)

    3. What were the other cards of the G200's time? I want to get a better gague of it's performance. I'm not sure if it was new with the Riva128/128ZX/Voodoo or the RivaTNT/i740/Voodoo2/Banshee era.

    4. Is 3D accelleration enabled on the G200 under win2k or am I gonna need to stick with Win98? The Mystique220's Win2K drivers do not accellerate D3D.

My kids run Win98SE, so I never worry about 3D working.

    1. Yes, they eventually made on ICD for G200. It's built into the later drivers.

    2. G100 has no OGL, and no 3D setup engine. It can handle some basic DX5 instructions, but in general it's regarded as having no 3D capabilities.

    3. G200 was in the days of TNT/Voodoo2/Banshee.

    4. It should work with win2k with Matrox's drivers installed.

Performance is about tnt 1 level except you get that at 32bit with some extra eye candy. In 16bit its slower than a tnt but in 32bit its a bout equal maybe faster..

I used to have both, but stuck with the g200 because the IQ is SO MUCH nicer.
