  • does the G400 max have the same tv-out quality as the "standard" g400?

    hi everyone,

the matrox g400 is well known for its very good tv-out quality... but does the g400 max have the same tv-out quality?

i'm asking because it's hard to get a standard g400 that runs with 1.5volts and on ebay (germany) there are more g400 max than standard g400s....

    thanks in advance,
    micha

Yup, same chips. The MAX is just clocked higher.

ok... i forgot to ask: does the g400 max always support agp with 1.5volts or are there two versions of the g400 max like the standard g400 (one that runs *only* with 3.3 volts and one that supports 1.5 volts, too)

Yes, there are two versions of the MAX as well. And the 1.5v version of the MAX is harder to find (though I've got one ).

Though I gather the 3.3v version of either would be easy to mod.

Anyway, I bet 1.5v G400s are more common than you think. If you see one on eBay, just email the seller and ask for the model number (the number that starts with "G4") - you don't need to say why. I bet most of the non-Max cards will be 1.5v versions.

BTW, I'm sure you're aware of this, but you need a dualhead card for TV-out.

the last g400 with 1.5v on ebay was sold at 70€ (!!!!)
atm i'm watching 10 g400 und g400 max... only two of them support 1.5v... (i asked the sellers, but some of them didn't reply)

what's with this urban myth about G400s not working at 1.5v AGP signalling voltage?

The only problem there is (other than maybe an irrelevant ability to run at 4x AGP aperture speed), is that the first (1? 2?) pcb revisions of the G400 might clash with the auto-detection mechanism of the motherboard. That doesn't mean it won't run at 1.5v if the motherboard will provide it.

And even if it 'clashes', it can be fixed with a very simple modification to the card.

i got this with my mobo (see attachment)

you mean all g400, even if they don't have the "4A" in the product code will work together with my mobo without any problems? and in the worst case a small mod is required to make it working?!

                  That's correct.

Same question here, except for the Marvel G400, is the TV out quality on it as good as the standard G400?

Also, what voltage does the Marvel G400 run at?

Even if this card is of the older PCB have no fear all that is neccessary to do in add a jumper where R68 would be... see this link for more details.
