  • System won't power up with G400 installed!

    Has anyone seen this?

On my KT400a, I install my G400 hit the power switch and nothing happens. I take the card out, system powers up as expected. I re-seat the card and the power won't come on. Pull the card out slightly and the power starts on the card and the system but I get a post error (video card not found).

I've not been able to find any documentation on a conflict between thi G400 and this motherboard. The card does work; what's the problem?

    Thanks in advance,
    T. Wanz~

probably the voltage detection mechanism on your mobo conflicting with the g400.

Which pcb or model number does your G400 have?

also see this thread for a fix (if that's the cause):

      I believe its G4 + MMDHA42G.

        double check it.

If it doesn't have the '4A' in the model number, than it's very very likely that its the voltage detection conflicting, which can be solved by soldering r68 as described in the thread I linked.

btw this thread belongs in matrox hardware

From the thread you referred me to:
"It appears that a single PCB serial number (906-01 Rev.: A) has a fault on it where the TYPEDET pin is not connected to GND. "

I have the PCB and there is no "4A" in the model # (G4+MMDHA32G). So am I hosed? I've changed the AGP setting in my board's bios to 2X and still nothing...
You mentioned a soldering solution, will please you elaborate or suggest a comparable replacement for this card?

keep reading the thread dZeus pointed you to.
about the 5th page there are directions on bridging the R68 pads with wire or conductive paint/pencil etc.
I have done this and it works perfectly after the mod.
Yeah, well I'm gonna build my own lunar space lander! With blackjack aaaaannd Hookers! Actually, forget the space lander, and the blackjack. Ahhhh forget the whole thing!

Just don't pencil it, that doesn't work... but yes closing the R68's contacts should fix your problem

Yup, make a solder bridge to short the pads of R68 together and it should work fine.

or make a thin roll of aluminum foil and tape it between the R68 contacts like I did...
