Do you Still use a matrox card in your prime machine

we have some O2's here at uni... sadly they barly have seen any sort of use... they are outfited with Softimage 3D... back from the days SI was owned by Microsoft ... befor they sold it off to avid.... lol.... any way.. i still think the O2 is an impresive machine.... the indigo is not that bad.. we have one here too... but its nothing like the O2... now the terzo (the new modle) looks very intresting.. especialy with all the DMedia options.. IIRC there is an otion for dual head and dual display cards... Full OGL on all 4 monitors.. not to mention the real uncompressed HD capacity..... such a system cuple with Discreet Smoke 6.5 HD/VFX system is just something i dream of...

Two parhelias at work, a p750 at home and a G400. Other work machines have nvidia and ati, except for a computer (intel 3200) whose hd kept dying has a millenium w/ 4 MB of memory. For some reason there were conflicts with cards with multiple monitors outputs and the raid card.

Just got a flat panel giving me three monitors and I'm now seriously considering droping my 9700Pro and 9200SE and getting a Parhelia.

Not sure yet though, occasionally I do have a big gaming session so I'm a bit concerned as to whether the Parhelia can cope.

I've been a die-hard Matrox user since the original Millenium, but that's over now. I've had a Millenium I, a Millenium II, a G200, and a G400MAX. Two weeks ago I replaced my 5-year-old G400MAX with a nVidia 6800GT card.

I love this card. The 2D IQ is great (flat-panel display: G400MAX=analog, 6800GT=digital) and the 3D performance is simply amazing.

I'm willing to spend some serious money for video cards because I don't replace them often. Matrox could have sold me a high-end card (like the 6400MAX I bought soon after it was released) but elected not to serve my market niche. OK, that is their perogative.

I went with nVidia because I spend all my time on a Linux desktop, and nVidia has shown a commitment to that environment. Sure enough, the drivers worked great out of the box. No tweaking or work-arounds required. Meanwhile, Matrox lays off software engineers.

I was planning on buying a Parhelia - until it came out. Grossly overpriced (even for an infrequent buyer like me), pathetic 3D performance, flakey drivers. Oh yes, and there may be conflicts with my i860 chipset. Pffffft!! I stayed with the G400MAX, waiting for something better.

That something better is here and it is not from Matrox. I don't begrudge Matrox their business plan, but it has cost them my custom.

For the last 10 years I've only had Matrox cards in my machines... And still so today:
Parhelia (in my primary, dual Xeon)
G200 (in secondary, PII-450; wil replace it with a G550 I have lying around)
Mystique (in tertiary, but this is only a Pentium 166 )

Used to have a Parhelia. Probably excellent hardware, but I'll never know, since it lacked functioning drivers. After a year of waiing for Matrox to release something working, I gave up and got a Radeon 9600. It's twice as fast and it has excellent driver support. Well, at least compared to the Parhelia

I have had almost all MAtrox cards from the original Millennium, and I got a Parhelia shortly after it was released.

Two months ago I replaced my Parhelia with a nVidia GeForce 6800 Ultra card, and I'm very satisfied. Excelent 2D quality (Dual-DVI) excelent 3D speed, and good drivers!

earliest i had was an old mystique in an old 2nd pc, i myself bought and used a Millenium II and G400 for a long long time in my main PC now it is in my other pc... now currently using an ATi 9500pro... I tend to go for a single large screen then multi-screen so i didnt go for the Parhelia and it was too expensive as well

cant see myself buying a matrox card in the future unless they come up with something in the category of a X800 XT/Platinum or a 6800 Ultra END NEXT YEAR at least; with full linux support.

i like ATi cards but their linux drivers leave much to be desired.. there seems to be a rumour about something better coming from them.. but at the moment the next card i will buy will probably come from nVidia just so that when i switch fully over to linux i will have less problems with 3d (i do want to play 3d games once in a while)

Gotta love the linux support i had for Matrox G400.
