  • P650 PCI troubles

    Evening gents,

I'm using the P650 in the PCI edition in an IBM Dock II with an IBM laptop. The problem is, the fan on the PCI is rather noisy (I'm being polite here...) so what do I do to get the noise level down? There is not much room for the PCI slot in the docking station, so my first idea, which is to fill the space around the P650 in the docking station with foam, is maybe not so good? However, I'm toying with the idea of just unplugging the fan on the card, but this may not be a good idea either?

Link to the docking station: http://www-132.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/st...710U&storeId=1

You need an aftermarket cooler with bigger heatsink and possibly slower fan with bigger diameter for the card (not sure, whether passsive HS will fit in docking station), however finding one that fits on 650 LP PCI and in docking station might be hard.

You can also ask matrox tech support about mounting holes and which coolers might fit.

Getting aftermarket cooler will woid your warranty.

Unplugging the fan and God forbid, inserting foam will damage the card.
