Well Matrox Market Share will go down more & more beacouse theyr cards currently... sucks.
I made many multimedia things, videos, gfx, 3d software, 3d games etc.
& well Parhelia card isn't great. If someone know what is "demoscene" then he know that parhelia sucks. Problem is many new 3d app/games need more than parhelia can give. So people will not buy this card. Well G450/G550 will be still much more prefered cards by OEM vendors, because they are much cheaper than PArhelia that sucks. But when Radeon with nice GPU gost same cost like G450 OEM vendors will end cooperation with Matrox.. So another years will show that MGA will become invisivle in market share....
A CRAY is the only computer that runs an endless loop in just 4 hours...

Though still working in underground, there is small group of ppl standing behind the bitboys technology. And if Matrox haven't given anything to gamers market after parhelia, it's nothing compared to waiters of the bitboys. Though they have now delivered IP, the desktop side is still unconquered. (Officially that isn't even plans, but everything is possible... like Bitboys turning into profittable company. )

but yeah, I kind of miss the days when my most search here was "Bitboys" and also the days when I actively did "cover ninja operations" (like Ant put it back then.)

Also, I don't think that Murc ever was really hard on Bitboys. maybe that is because the embm, dunno...

and what comes to Matrox's future, I can only quote Yoda:
"Hard to see, what future is. all time in move, future is."
whats funny is that all indications point to ATI adopting a technology very similar to the EDRAM that Bit Boys was pushing..
"And yet, after spending 20+ years trying to evolve the user interface into something better, what's the most powerful improvement Apple was able to make? They finally put a god damned shell back in." -jwz

One of us doesn't have a very good memory in this regard. Perhaps a search is in order ...

...yeah, Murcers are way too jolly for stuff like that. in the linked thread, no one was actually able to downplay my arguments. (this was extremely rare and happened here more than once. ) Also, there's really discussion about the situation, Not like in the other forums where majority would have already decided their opinions, even without looking what others respond.

so yes, as sad it was, that thread actually shows that Murcers really weren't in the edge of attacking Bitboys (compared to several other forums during the same period of time.)

and as the cherry on top, the last post of the thread points on news where NEC announced that they have licensed G10 core. :P

There's definetely better examples, like from March 2000, when somewhere leaked "news" that Glaze3D is canned.

EDIT: besides, this getting redicilous, I am now trying to convice guys that they are good guys, while they like to see themselves as evil ones.

I realize that was a tame one and it was simply the most recent one I spotted. The more heated threads were from before so things had pretty much flamed out by then. You might also notice that I never joined in the flaming (as I recall).

So I guess you're saying, even though you were the target of many flames (though apparently less than at other sites as Sasq conjectured), that MURC was a happier place back then?! I'll agree that MURC was a lot more interesting while Matrox was targeting the consumer market with cards like the G4xx series. There hasn't been much to talk about in regards to Matrox graphics since soon after the Parhelia launch (oh, such excitement there was leading up to and at the launch). I guess some people still clutch to a glimmer of hope that Matrox is going to wow them with a shiny new card to play with; it would be nice but I stopped holding my breath long ago.

MURC is at its best when it has a wiff that somethying is going on, its absolutely frenzied, then as soon as something happens the magic is lost. I remember being a silent observer here in the pre G550 days - and pre parhelia days, so much anticipation and exitement. They should just leak some false info that they have the next superchip in developement - that would keep us all happy for at least the next 5 years
is a flower best picked in it's prime or greater withered away by time?

I am not sure about that... after all MURC has way too many ears to cross check all the leaks. for example, "pitou" was shot down here first, just because there was so much cross-over information flying around that something had to be wrong. They need to have huge specs and more leaks than just the company, they need excited game houses. (trust me, there was quite few when Parhelia was coming. )

Then leak all this to correct persons, like Amiga Blitter and voilÃ*, we have hype frenzy festival going on here.

no use to leaking to me... I have become senile to hype information. Not even news about new Bitboys releases won't drive me posting to 20 forums. (nowadays, I only might drop a small note in the corner of some my posts in Beyond3D and that's it. Or how many of you noticed that about week ago, Bitboys released a new core? )

                        Who?

... and Sasq please, we don't need those kinda leaks ... we've got plenty of hot air around here already.

They're dead unless they release something new and innovative to get some attention. Period. You can't develop technologically sophisticated video cards without revenue, and whatever revenue is coming in for them is guaranteed to be pitifully small. HP, Dell, Compaq, Sony, etc all gave up their Matrox OEM contracts years ago. Contractors don't buy products that don't work from a company with no clout.

I don't remember the last time I saw a Matrox card newer than a Mystique in a used comp. Hell, I only know two people who owned a G400 other than I. Most people have never even heard of M.

Parhelia was released broken and hugely overpriced, and most people just laughed at it. ATI released 9700 a few months later and totally squashed it for games. And, 9700 has very good 2D output. I have a hard time distinguising built-by-ATI cards (all the way back to Rage 128) from my G400. And my 9700 has drivers that 1) work 2) will run HL2 at max quality NV is a somewhat different story as their cards have had serious 2D problems. The GF6 and maybe GFFX cards seem damn good though.

They basically have never cared about their customers. Haig is the only employee that I know of that gives a damn. G450, G800, and Parhelia were all supposed to be far more than they were. At the very least, M is a company that has no idea how to advertise or market!

Surround Gaming is too much of a niche thing, sorry. Very few people are going to buy 3 monitors for gaming. Most people aren't willing to spend $200 for a 19" CRT.

So I hope Matrox dies. What's left is pretty useless, IMO.

Really? Funny that. I'm in a big room where recently about 350 new HP PC's were installed. They're all runing with G450-MMS-es

Well I'd say that's one of Matrox's special niches. I don't know of any other companies making MMS like cards.

I should have been more clear in talking about the mainstream, consumer market. Where the high volume is. I'm kinda amazed ATI & NV don't go after those little niches more aggresively, considering Matrox has been dominating them for years. The only reason I can see that they wouldn't is that if the potential revenue isn't great enough.
