  • W2K DH limitations

I seem to remember that W2K didn't support dual independant desktops on Matrox hardware.

Is this right or am I remembering wrong?

A friend of mine is thinking of getting a P650 for his two CRT monitors. He's a W2K user and doesn't want to upgrade to XP.

I kind of remember that he'll have to use stretched mode. Can anyone confirm?

Are there other limitations that I need to tell him about?

I do believe they do support dual head independent mode, it was matrox who first came up with the idea to use 2 in the control panel, allowing proper dual head.

FWIW, I'm running a G400Max (not a p650) on W2K in Dual-Head Multi-Display mode, using monitor 1 for most things, and monitor 2 for monitor (no pun intended) programs like Process Explorer, MBM, Gaim buddy list... I don't know how independant you want, since #2 is a continuation of #1, although at a different resolution.

cool, that sounds fine. I just thought I remembered that there was a limitation, or used to be. It's been so long since I've used W2K that I wanted to be sure.

just the other way round ... Matrox was the only company that managed to offer independant DH config on Win2k

Despite my nickname causing confusion, I am not female ...
