  • Jerky Hi-Def Playback on Parhelia

    Hi all,

I'm trying to playback the videos on http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en but I'm getting really jerky playback - like 3 or 4 fps. The mouse pointer even goes jerky...

This is on an original Parhelia on a Celeron 2.4 (also had it on my Athlon 2500+). Any ideas? Latest drivers everywhere.

    Cheers,
    Steve

Ah found that http://forum.matrox.com/mga/viewtopi...parhelia+video makes the mouse pointer no longer go jerky, but the video's still poor. It's smooth for like 2 seconds.

My Celeron 1.9 at work on a G450 runs them much better. Still a bit jerky, but much better than the Parhelia does.

How are Apple's HD thingies? They played just fine on my Parhelia...also, how much RAM do you have in said system?
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.

Teh 480p ones play fine, the 720p ones stuggle a little bit if there's a lot of movement on screen.

The PC's an intel 865 chipset, Celeron 2.4, 1Gig RAM...

            ps.
while downloading i noticed that the dialog from windows that shows download progress and location info normally shows transfer rate at the top left was alternating between that and a string of ascii characters(..alt-0164)...anyone else noticed this?

I didn't see that problem with the downloads...

Anyway surely the Parhelia is capable of HD playback? Esp when the G450 does a better job of it?!?

on my p650 playback is really bad before I disabled the option mentioned in post #2. After disabling it, most 720p videos are fluid, but some still are a bit choppy during fast motion. This is on a p650 + Northwood 2.8C + i875

Hi dZeus - is that with the Apple or Microsoft videos? I can only get like a couple of seconds of fluid, then it's 1 frame every few seconds on the MS ones...

on the MS ones. I first downloaded them. I don't really like the video streaming stuff in WMP... haven't tried apple as I don't have a quicktime alternative installed that plays HD and no way that quicktime player will make its way to my desktop.

btw. see if the agp aperture size is set at 256MB in the BIOS. I recall this having some influence on playback with at least some ATI or nV cards

It seems that my Parhelia plays 720p videos just fine, but P650 doesn't...

I get jerky video too, but only if I use Windows Media Player.
I didn't notice any problems when using PowerDVD.

I also tried Coral Reef Adventure (IMAX) (720p) from here:

hmm not actually perfect - a robots clip played perfectly, so does the EA preview xbox 360 one. The Gears of war one is really bad still tho. A couple other xbox ones are just black with no picture at all in WinDVD, but jerky in Media player. The PGR3 xbox one is black in WinDVD and perfect in Media Player....

                          Well confused...

By the way I noticed if I download these videos via my wireless card then I get odd characters. Over wired connection on same PC all is fine.... very weird.

I just achieved some fantastic results with VLC Player yesterday...try it, even 1080i vidz worked for me with it!
