Just to talk about Matrox and corporate markets, I have worked in IT departments for over 2 years and have found it impossible to convince anyone to buy a Matrox. We just get the cheapest Saphire cards when we need better gfx performance / quality.

Then again I never manage to justify anything it seems! They ask me to do graphic design work for them, I begged for photoshop, and they gave me... the Gimp! They asked me to re-vamp their website, and I was "lucky" to get MS Frontpage!

I think I'd rather use Notepad
When you own your own business you only have to work half a day. You can do anything you want with the other twelve hours.

That's exactly how I started web designing 10 years go...
After 15 minutes with FrontPage switched to using notepad!

If only you'd seen the light and switched to vim

LOL, blame it on my youth, I was just 14 back then! Since then I used a lot of different editors, my favourite remains Ultraedit32, but i remember that I really enjoyed Homesite and TopStyle (by the same author iirc). I've only had the chance to touch vim a couple of times, is it that good?

P.S. Sorry for this big OT

Well, back in the G100/G200 days, Matrox was convienient because of their unified driver system.
But now, most companies just buy some branded computers (Dell, Fujitsu, IBM, ...) and use whatever is standard: let's face it, for most corporate uses, any videocard will do.

For us, it depends on the departement, but for the majority the major concern is Linux support. So if a videocard has decent Linux drivers, it is high on our list.

a TripleDualLinkDVI2go sounds really nice. i don't know any video cards that support 7680x1600 stretched resolution though... do we need to look at a Quad SLI solution or maybe Octa SLI?

it's annoying that ATI sucks giant canadian mooseballs when it comes to TH2G. i was really looking forward to getting one (TH2G) for my system. i now have to wait till either ATI comes up with a driver fix or wait till my next gpu upgrade, which won't be happening for another year or year 1/2 at the very least.

Matrox has certainly given nVidia an advantage over ATI. how big of an advantage? j'n'sais pas. Enough that i'm maybe considering swaping my gpu and mb for an SLI setup.

I only meant 3840x1024 resolution, with a possibility to use DVI connectors instead of VGA. Dual link DVI supports 2560x1600, which is enough for three independent Single link DVI outputs @1280x1024 per display.

Very true. Mainly we just go with the onboards that come with Fujitsu-Siemens PCs.

Although last week I went to a demonstration of Visa / Office 12. I think Avalon will make a mess of most onboard gfx cards. I have no idea how long it will take us to move to Vista as the requirements are rediculous!

There was a test machine in the lab and I quickly looked at the taskmanager to see memory usage, here is what I remember:

                      explorer.exe 70Mb
                      svchost (networking I think) 200Mb
                      sidebar 40Mb

And this was WITHOUT the DX9 / DX10 effects switched on.

Seems like they are forcing us to get thin clients with either linux or windows embedded, and then go to terminal services. (we have a 6-site WAN). Although our company is being bought right now so next week I might be helpdesk monkey instead of network architect!
