New G-series drivers

I wonder if they are also, like 5.95, 2D only... (can't check here, in cafe)

PS. And I also wonder if they'll make it to 6.00

even more funny is the fact that these notes were written for the 5.93 drivers and not for this 5.96 release ...

Yep, exactly my point:
After (almost) 2 years, they update the drivers. What is there left to be updated now?
2 years since the last update, for drivers of cards that are approx. 6 years old.

nah ... they had the 5.95 release in 2005 ...

Yep, the one that removed 3D acceleration... (I'm going to check today how it looks with these drivers)

BTW, overally, as to why they're releasing it...I'd guess there was some quiet launch of yet another G-series based specialty card?

Update: new drivers DO support hardware acceleration in DirecX & OpenGL (at least under G400).

SteveC: perhaps, I was just guessing beceause that was the case year ago, with G550 PCIe.

Woohoo, just what we've all been waiting for!
(I'll install them on my PII-450, who knows what good it does... )

There were some bugs with the G450 (or is a G550 in my 2nd PC?) in XP. Nothing shocking, but e.g. at startup the windowslogo suddenly fades and freezes for a couple of seconds.

The bug I mentioned (which was confirmed quite a while back by Matrox tech support, but they said it is nothing to worry about) isn't solved. Guess we'll have to wait for 5.97.

I am having trouble with the 5.96 drivers. While I am able to run dxdiag, I am not able to run more complicated Direct3D applications such as the Matrox G400 Tech Demo or Freespace2.
