Matrox Graphics, a developer of graphics processing units for niche markets, is reportedly developing a graphics processing unit made using 90nm process technology. It is unclear whether the company is developing a Microsoft Windows Vista-compatible graphics accelerator.

Mosaid Memorize, a memory controller development firm, said that Matrox Graphics would incorporate DDR IP (intellectual property) memory interface and controller product “into future Matrox Graphics 90nm professional graphics controllers”.

Currently Matrox Graphics processors do not support Microsoft DirectX Shader Model 2.0, which is why cannot comply with Windows Vista premium requirements. Even though Matrox has never announced a significant update to its Parhelia graphics chip announced in 2002, it is very likely that the company has been working on a more advanced chip.

“Mosaid Memorize IP was the best choice to meet specific price-performance targets we set for future 90nm graphics processing units,” said David Chiappini, director of ASIC engineering, Matrox. “Mosaid’s complete solution allowed us to reduce risk and time to market through the use of proven third party IP, allowing us to complement our own memory interface specialists and tape out more products in a shorter period of time”.

Supporting data rates up to 1066MHz, Mosaid Memorize memory interface and controller IP is silicon proven and available now for leading foundry processes targeting 130nm and 90nm CMOS technologies.

    Parhelia 2!! ...

With the release of Vista looming I am surprised we haven't heard anything sooner. It would be nice if they released a card that could compete with the midrange nv/ati but...

    good find btw!

the parhelia core can do quite a lot of things, some of them quite impresively! these 90n chips have to be at least as versityle if not exceedingly more so.

we'll just have to wait and see.

        Parhelia 2

        ROTFLMAO

        You mean Parhelia part Deux!

If M had made P the way it was suppose to be in the first place and ran at speeds it was 'hoped' to run at then they would have had a card that wouldn't have flopped. And flopped it did, in the most spectacular way with something like only 2500 units shipped in the first 4 months of release!

I know all of us beta testers told them not to release P, it's not ready for prime time. They didn't listen and shoved it out the door, while doing more harm than good. Heck it performed at the levels we all expected from the card known as the G450, then the same happened with the cough G800 cough, ermmm G550.

I highly doubt the policies Bronco adheres to have changed since those days and being such caused the graphics division to flounder so bad under the continued gross leadership of Dan (I've got YET another lame excuse) Wood.

With the majority of talent gone from the graphics division this is could be nothing more than a rehash of the same old same old

Couldn't this simply be used as a buffer interface for future HD and extreme HD Video editing ?
