Scaling for DVDMax

Please tell me if I am doing everything right. Maybe a simplier way exists.

I figured out scaling must be done in software in order to obtain smooth picture. So to watch 4:3 DivX movies I set ffdshow to scale to 768 by 576 and preserve source aspect ratio (for 25 fps PAL, naturally). To watch widescreen movies I
1. Switch my TV to 16:9 mode
2. Set ffdshow to scale to 1024x576
3. Change to 16:9 in DVDMax settings

I changed aspect ratio detection method in DVDMax to based on video window size, not source size.

If anybody knows a better way, any advice is appreciated. Thank you in advance!

don't rescale, only change the window size. With Media Player classic (and many others) you can change the aspect ratio of the video window with a click of the mouse

Oh yeah, you are right, thanks! Scaling works fine. Unchecking "Use field-based scaling" solves the problem.
