G400 problems with games

i need some advice please.
i got my computer with a 32m G400 a few weeks ago and i am having a problem running games in full screen. this has only started since i installed the latest 5.21 drivers and bios.(worked ok when i first installed off the CD with the card)

the problem is when i start games ie:carmaggedon 2, incoming i get a black border on either side of my monitor, but games like kingpin and quake 2 run ok in full screen. i have my desktop set a 1024 x 768 at 32bit on a dell 15 inch monitor(set as standard svga 1024 x 768 monitor). any ideas why i hace this problem, the only other thing i did was to run the reg hack to dissable vsync.

I know this is a dumb comeback but are the games being played at 800x600? or 1024x768? If your monitors resolution is 1024x768 and your playing games at 800x600 the screen will be smaller hence the borders.

silly question

if i change my desktop to 800 x 600 would the games play in full screen. i didnt see options on carmaggedon 2 to change the resolution.

sorry if this a daft question, but i am new to pc games. i had a pc but it was a P133 and i didnt use it for games.
