  • Q3 and G400

I cant seem to get Q3 to work on my G400, it gives me this error "GLW_StartOpenGL() - could not load OpenGL subsystem". I have GLSetup installed, and it does not help. Anyone have any ideas?

I got this error when i hadn't properly uninstalled the previous drivers.

    Try to use the uninstaller
    http://www.murc.ws/Driver/Win9x/PD5/un_513.zip

    and then reinstall Powerdesk.

... and do not use GLSetup ...

just use the uninstaller (from the given link above) and install the latest PowerDesk. http://www.murc.ws/Driver/Win9x/PD5/w9x_515.exe

This is wierd, I tried what you guys told me to do. It worked, then I reboot, try it again and it fails in Q3A. Gives me this error:

        ...GLW_ChoosePFD failed
...failed to find an appropriate PIXELFORMAT
        ...restoring display settings
...WARNING: could not set the given mode (3)
        ...shutting down QGL
        ...unloading OpenGL DLL
...assuming '3dfxvgl' is a standalone driver
        ...initializing QGL
...WARNING: missing Glide installation, assuming no 3Dfx available
        ...shutting down QGL
GLW_StartOpenGL() - could not load OpenGL subsystem

Sorry for the long message, but I need someone's help please.

"...assuming '3dfxvgl' is a standalone driver"

That sounds interesting. You uninstalled your previous video card properly right? Was is a 3DFX card by any chance?

I'm currently using PD5.15 and when I ran GLSetup it told me I had newer OpenGL drivers then it did and just closed. Q3Test is working fine for me. You might want to try installing PD5.15 too. Never know

            Ramger,

I had the exact same problem, and on top of that, Q2 wouldn't work for me either. I think it is safe to guess that you have at least 1 voodoo board in your system already. If you are using the new drivers with the openGL ICD, it's going to cause conflicts with the Matrox ICD. I ended up reformatting my HD, and installing win98SE and 2k without my V2s in the system, and then installing them afterwards with the older drivers (the ones without the ICD). Now both my G400 and V2 work great with everything! =)

BTW, if anyone finds out how to get Q2 brighter with their G400/Max, please replay. The brightness slide doesn't seem to work in the game. =(

I had the same problem. It looks like Q3 has a problem with multi-monitor support. After disabling the second monitor ("extend my desktop onto this monitor" under display properties) it worked fine.

              hope this helps

Don't bother the "assuming 3dfx is standalone etc...". It tries that whenever the default OpenGL32.dll can't be found/initialized.

Yes properly unistall/reinstall drivers and then disable multimonitor.

This is the same problem I'm having. I've used pd_uninst twice. I've reinstalled w98se. I've turn off dual-head.

And I still get the problem.

(And yes guys I did put the right Opengl32.dll 737k back in my windows/system)

... Am totally at a loss now.

If anyone reply, can they email me with it too?
