  • Heretic 2 and G400

This just defaults to software mode when I try to run it. Is anyone running this accelerated with the G400? Any help appreciated.

Hi, I'm having exactly the same problem with Heretic 2 and my G400 (32 Mb dualhead). When I try to change the settings to anything other that software the game changes it to software mode again... I have DX6 installed...

        Howdy,

Heretic 2 works fine for me (G400 OEM 16mb S/H)

When it fails initilization it will give u the reason in the console, so have a look at what it says.

Also if your in dualhead mode some opengl things won't be able to get a pixel descriptor (Quake3 is an example, dunno about heretic2)

        Hope this helps,

        Regards
        Arma

Has anybody that is having these problems figured this out yet??? I have a Dual 32Meg G400 also, and it goes to software mode~!?!?! Looks like the single head guys have it working.

I got Heretic 2 working with OGL with my dual head with the 5.21 and 5.25 drivers. Make sure you add the registry tweak if you want to play at 1280 though. I tried that setting and got an error that was only fixed be reinstalling the game and running the registry tweak.

                Tony- Need details...

what reg tweak did you have to adjust?? Vsync???

Also- what did you choose for the OpenGL driver in Heritic II??? G200??? I saw a G200 option but did not see a G400 option.
Every other game on my system ROCKS except this one.

                Thanks.

Ok here's what happened and what got the game working for me:

                  1. Tried running Heretic 2 with 5.13 and 5.15 drivers using OpenGL32 driver. No go - it would just default to software mode.

                  2. Installed 5.21 driver. Reinstalled Heretic 2. It works at 1024 resolution with OpenGL32 driver. I try 1280x960 resolution. Get an error message and game crashes. I try to go back to 1024. It gives me the same error msg and game crashes again.

                  3. Reinstalled heretic 2. Try it at 1024 + OpenGl32 driver. It works. Applied the 1280x960 registry hack that's in the set of "Powerdesk 5.x Reg hacks" file (available here from the MURC file archive). Try the game at 1280x960 using OpenGL32 driver. It works.

I've since installed 5.25 and the beta ICD and the game still works.

                  Good Luck. :-)
