  • HalfLife, OpenGL, PowerDesk5.25

Just installed the new drivers, and I thought I'd give HalfLife a try in OGL. Well, look what I found...

That's with all of Kruzin's tweaks in the autoexec.cfg.

    Anyone else seeing this?

Oops, forgot to update the sig for new drivers...

I guess I'm back to D3D for now.

My guess is that is not the new ICD with those drivers. It looks like the beta one you had to download separately. Try it with the ICD that came with the drivers, if that is the case.

If you look at the date of that 'beta' ICD, you will see it is 2 months old. That was a known problem with this beta ICD. It should not be there with the current "release" ICD.

Nope, not the Beta ICD. File date is 9/7/99 3:49 PM. And I did do the uninstall first.

          Wow. Bummer.
I have not seen this effect since the early 5.20.00x betas.

            This is a lightmap problem.
I wonder if gl_texsort "0" would clear it up.....but then, of course, you're right back where you started, with it being to slow...

Thanks Kruzin, I'll give that a try and let you know what happens.

                Half Life
There are still issues in Half-Life.If I knew how to display a picture I'd load it here. There is a missing ceiling light in a level played here today--not entirely , but from several angles--and at times this light shimmers on and off.Wall smudges from explosions wander about a little too freely as well.
The released ICD is quicker than the .21 version and the beta is more so . But even the beta is too slow . Still 20% fewer fps than SLI .

                Stupid Icons
The desktop icons have gone a wandering on the desktop after the server is shut down. SHEESH ! This
was controlled in 5.21 by the options in Display Properties but that control appears lost with 5.25 . The trick is to disable autoload for the power desk driver . Then the icons remain where they were before the game driver loads the 3D screen .

                  agallag:

I'm running Half-Life with 5.25 and the beta ICD with Kruzin's tweaks and its running OGL flawlessly. It looks great. I'm not getting any of that rainbow effect you are getting. I'd maybe try reinstalling everything again, including maybe Half-Life itself or try the Beta ICD and see what happens.

I can duplicate that colour issue .The trouble shows in TFC ( 2fort) , not Half Life itself. The shimmering light I mentioned is in Multiplayer ( crossfire ).

I've been playing some more OGL HalfLife, and the weirdo colours haven't happened again. Including in 2fort. Must've been a freak incident. I didn't try turning the gl_texsort back to 0, but now it looks like I wont have to. There is the odd graphical glitch (mostly in the "Well" tfc map, but they sometimes happen in D3D as well), but for the most part it's looking pretty good.

Troop, I think I may have seen that shimmering light thing too. I was in Crossfire, and some of the red railings, when viewed from a distance and at an angle, would shimmer (and sometimes they'd be bright green!?).

                            WOW!
I thought that I was the only one with this
problem. I get the "disco dance lighting"
once in a while when playing QuakeII and
Kingpin. Coincidence that this happens in
OpenGL games? It has appeared in every driver
                            version that I have tried....sigh....

I don't know for sure, but try disabling 'Palettized Textures' ...
