  • G400 OpenGL does not work or I'm stupid or something...

    Hi,

I JUST cant get OpenGL working with my G400.
Quake2 reports cannot find opengl32. The GL file is right in the windows/system directory. I tried also darkstone, but hung up in the beginning (uses opengl).
    So :
Where to get an opengl32.dll that works with G400. I tried the G400 ICD beta, nopers.
    AND :
Where can I get those TurboGl drivers for G400. I followed the link reported few posts from here, but it only said that it has been released. No links to the file itself.

I must be a retard, everyone else is getting it working, but not me. What am I doing wrong here ?

    Thanks in advance,
    Acidia

Okay, but what about the OpenGL support generally. _NOT_ even a single opengl game work. I've tried every test ive gotten my hands into. No. I have the latest Matrox drivers, and the ICD driver, but to no avail. Did I miss something? I reinstalled whole Windows98, so there are no other old drivers messing with matrox.

If you have a dual head, you must have the dual monitor turned off.

When you say reinstalled windows 98, you mean you formatted and did a clean install, right?

                Hello Rags,
do you mean to imply that opengl applications will not run in dual head mode spread across two monitors?

Frank, he's not implying that, it's the truth... with OGL you can only use one monitor with the G400. Seems to be in the software somewhere... but maybe in the future this will be edited as well, as there's the Quad G200 coming out

                    Frank-
Yes. When "extend desktop to this monitor" is enabled, OGL will not work. This is a Winblows limitation, not G400.

                    acidia-
When you say in your first post "Where to get an opengl32.dll that works with G400. I tried the G400 ICD beta, nopers.", do you mean you replaced the windows opengl32.dll file? The file the G400 uses is G400icd.dll. You did not rename that opengl32.dll did you?

You should have NO opengl32.dll files anywhere, except in your windows\system folder (there should not be an opengl32.dll in any game folders). The opengl32.dll that is in your windows\system folder must be the correct one. The one that installed with Windows. You must also have glu32.dll(windows file) and g400icd.dll(matrox file) in the system folder.

If you have installed/uninstalled things like Scisoft's DirectGL, the opengl32 and glu32 files need to be restored to their original Windows versions.

If all of those things check out, how about your hardware? What kind of hardware are you running, what IRQs are assigned to what?

                      Thanks Jorden, thanks Kruzen,
I wasn't aware of that fact and will certainly be helpfull with future endevours enabling the DH option.
Good to know the G400 has the capacity, but windows has the beast caged.
                      Reagrds,

I have tohe original opengl32.dll file in windows/system directory. And the file MG400 (or whatever) i just unpacked it to windows/system (no i didnt rename it ).
for example quake2 says "cannot find opengl32". The opengl file is in the quake2 directory, and in windows/system directory, but still it cant find it.
But! I'll try to delete (rename) any other opengl32 files from the game directories - and try again.

Thanks again for the advices folks, expecially Kruzin .

                            from my last post:

You should have NO opengl32.dll files anywhere, except in your windows\system folder (there should not be an opengl32.dll in any game folders).

If you have an opengl32.dll in your game folder, there is your problem. Delete it.

Acidia - IIRC you shouldn't have the opengl32.dll in your Q2 directory. However, that _is_ a vague recollection, so backup the Q2 opengl32.dll before you delete it!
