Q3 stuttering..online only?! [g400]

Ok, wtf...

Timedemos, playing against bost and playing on a lan I get very decent fps at 1024x768.

Playing online stutters...not fps stutter (cg_drawfps 1 shows 30-50 range constant) but not lag stutter either! Sound stutter...and graphics, maybe the framecounter is lying? About 15 seconds into the game, it sttttuuuttttttteeeerrrrsss...but for 15 or so seconds I can kick ass just fine, like I do in HL

The other ogl games, Q2 and HL are fine though...shit something is up, any ideas?

well as u know quake 3 is just in it's beta stages....so...don't expect 2 much....

What's the netgraph (bottom right) look like? If it's showing lots of yellow and red then there's your problem (lag!). Doesn't sound like it could be much else, AFAICS.

its the network code, the level your referring to was designed for LAn/Cable. one map is for online fragging. get cable and notice the diffrence

I assume you're referring to Q3Test2 - The Longest Yard? In which case, that's untrue. Said map _was_ designed for LAN/Cable+ players, but it works fine and dandy on my 56K modem, and the vast majority of other people's 56K modems. If it's playable on the other levels then it won't make _that_ much of a difference simply by switching to Longest Yard. If he's still got the problem then it's something a tad more serious!

Make sure all your stuff in the background is off - DirectCD from Adaptec causes my system to stutter, too. I usually leave the Virus Scanner disabled, shut down my messaging clients, and set my mail to check every hour instead of every 15 minutes (if I leave my mail open at all).
