  • Should I get the G400Max?

    Ive got a Voodoo3 3000 which runs very well...but I want 32bit color and bump-mapping.
The specs on Matrox are the best of any card out there and I want one bad...But I'm affraid it won't be fast enough at my favorite res of 1024x768 with 32bit on.
With the GeForce around the corner, it is even harder.

    Please give me some advice.

Look close at the GeForce early benches it seems like the max will smoke it in 32bit in high res... early drivers yes but so is the Max, Wait on the GF until T&L titles are released in 2000. By then there will be many cards that will be faster that this first Generation release and cheaper. I would'nt touch this "beta board" with my cash. Thats just my opinion. WAIT... get a Max if you can

I'm in the same boat you are with your decision!! The answer is....YES!!!! Get the Max!! I still own a V3 3000 and I absolutely love the G400!! The picture quality KILLS the V3! I will admit that games like Unreal still run faster with a V3, but with the kind of image quality you get, it just doesn't matter, and the performance hit isn't that bad at all!!

Well, if you want a win2k ready system who can play a large pile of the games currently available, then go and buy a TNT2. Or keep you'r voodoo3...

Get a G400 MAX. As I have stated many times, I love my G400 MAX more than any other bit of hardware I have ever purchased. Don't be afraid of the GeForce or Napalm- G400 MAX has staying power for sure.

Yah, it's driver support keeps it at the same place. Don't worry, it won't get any better

get the max or even the reg g400, (witch i have couldn't wait for a max. any way im happy looks a hell of a lot better than a v3 banshee or tnt (i had them all, even the normal g400 is fast enough for me at 1024/768
32bit color. (most games) those that don't i knock back to 800*600 32bit or run in 1024 16bit (depends witch looks better)reguardless the g400 in 16 bit still blows away a v3 tnt ect....

hey do you remember when it took your computer 10min to boot up into windows and we thought that was fast? or how about when you upgraded from a 486 dx33 to a dx2 66 and thought wow only 5 min to boot? those were the days now if it takes more than 1 min 30 sec we wonder what is wrong with our system.
