  • Is anyone able to run Rollercoaster Tycoon @ 1024x768 on G400?

If you are able to run Rollercoaster Tycoon at a resolution of 1024x768 on G400, please reply here with any special steps you had to take. The only way I can run it at 1024x768 is to turn video acceleration down two notches (unacceptable). Running at 640x480, 800x600 is just fine. I have no problems with any other games, no IRQ conflicts, remnants of old drivers, etc. The G400 runs on IRQ 11.

    Thanks in advance.

    Oops...forgot to add:

P3-450 on Asus P-3BF motherboard, G400Max, 256MB RAM, Win98FE, DX7, PD5.30. No network cards or SCSI cards. Nothing overclocked. All BIOS shadowing of video card turned off, PnP disabled in BIOS.

I used to play it all the time on my G200 and had no problems (except real slow scrolling when the screen got busy) running at 1024.. I usually used 640 though because of the slow down issues.

What kind of problems do you have at 1024?

Or does it not allow you to select it at all?

When I select "1024x768" in the RCT options menu, the G400 attempts to switch resolutions. The result is a black screen, with the card incorrectly setting the resolution to 800x600.

I have verified that switching to 1024x768 works with both the Voodoo3 and TNT2.

Same problem here on G400MAX. When set to 1024x768 fullscreen I get black squares all over the screen, all other modes work fine. I can run it in a window at 1024x768. Im waiting to hear back from microprose support on this issue, but im not going to get my hopes up. This has been a problem for a long time.

Well, I can tell you that it still works on mine at 1024 - and that was a fresh install just now...

Main differences are G200 vs. G400 and ver 5.25 vs. 5.30 drivers.

I haven't really had a reason to upgrade yet, so you might want to try the 5.25 drivers?? Just a suggestion maybe...

            Here are my specs:

            ------------------
            Current Specs:
            Epox MVP3G2
            K6-2 450 @ 450 (4.5x100)
            128MB PC100
            Marvel G200 (5.25 Drivers, 2.6 Bios, 1.51 Vid Tools)
            SB Live! Value (Liveware 3.0)
            18GB IBM ATA/66 HDD
            Compaq DVD-Rom drive
            Some Cheap 40x EIDE CD-Rom

As I can best recall, this has been a problem with all recent drivers and the G400. I'll try the 5.25 drivers again, just to verify this. However, my thoughts on this are that we are seeing a driver bug. RCT works fine at other resolutions, and other games work fine at 1024x768. Also, RCT works fine at 1024x768 with my Voodoo3 2000.

I looked around the Matrox website for a way to report bugs, but saw nothing. Does anyone know how/where to report this?

Where can I get the latest G400 drivers - I'm sure my ones are rubbish.

ps - RCT my screen doesn't refresh when I start a new game. Have to alt-tab out and back in to start new game.

                  ChrisW and MikeD-

Your problems running at 1024x768 are exactly as I have experienced. I have a 19" monitor and running RCT2 at 800x600 is pretty shabby. Before I bought my current computer in Aug, I was running RCT2 on a P200 w/ STB Velocity card at all resolutions with no problem. In fact I had finished over half the scenarios. I have contacted Microprose and their response was download the latest drivers from Matrox. Gee, thanks. I can assure them and Matrox that the 1024x768 problem persists with the G400 regardless of driver version (5.13, 5.20, 5.25, 5.30) Your email, Chris, prompted me to report this to Matrox. Please do the same and see if we can get a fix into the next driver release.

You can find the latest 5.30 drivers for the G400 at:

                      Lfan,

Who did you e-mail at Matrox? I will do the same. Thanks.

                        Chris,

The Matrox tech support form is: http://www.matrox.com/mga/tech_supp/...quest_form.htm
I am not aware of where else to register a driver bug with Matrox. I sure hope they are scanning this or other forums because we are their core customer base.

BTW, are you running Homeworld? The clipping problems running with G400 on that game is well documented and I included that in my "tech support request" to Matrox this morning.

Similar probs, at 1024, also screen update problems when starting the game. Also some horrible flickering lines in full screen mode at any resoloution - does anyone else experience this problem, just formatted my hard disk,Win 98 (not SE) then PD5.3 followed by DX 7.0 and the game and still this problem, really annoying, perhaps something else causing this problem (SBLive?)
