Okay here's the easy fix:

Setup for TurboGL and use a pre-configured 800x600x32 TGL q3config.cfg like this one.

You'll want to change the player name and keyboard mappings, but it will get you going.

Ok, Obviously I am upset. I bought the 400max for dual head and games. To find out that I have to disable dualhead to get game support makes me unhappy. I am going to buy Voodoo3 because if I can't get dualhead I may as well get a card that does not have driver issues.

Does nyone have dualhead and q3 working together? Will this ever work?

Goud: the problem with dualhead and opengl is not the fault of matrox, but with windows. As far as I know that issue will be corrected in Win2k. Direct3d is fine with dualhead.

Frustration is the game where the winner is the guy catching all the stuff that gets thrown out of the window.

I don't mind that opnegl does not support dual head. Its that I have to disable dualhead in windows which requires a reboot.
I am not going to reboot evertime I play Q3.

SAME THING HERE...The new Q3 Demo Test is fine (but alot slower) if I run it with the turboGL uninstalled...BUT, if I install it...I get the same thing...when I try to start Q3...all my desktop colors get washed out...
If anyone has an answer to this, please let me know...and be assured, my V2s are on my other box...never been on this one...

ps. I am about ready to take this K7 back and get the Coppermine...I know the K& is faster...but, man...its been nothing but problems...and I realize its not the AMD but the mobos (I have been thru three)...and I still don't like 3Dnow as much as Intels stuff...

Search your hd for...
3dfx*.dll and
3dfx*.vxd
Remove them if they exist.
Make sure your desktop is set to 16bpp or 32bpp.

After having (re)installed all drivers i could think off, and executed the "rename-start Q3A-set 800x600-32 mode-exit Q3A-rename" method, I still got the superbright 640x480 desktop when I tried to start up Q3A. But Scytale's "easy fix" actually did the trick.
Now I'm just wondering what the heck in that .cfg made the difference - Scytales, can you enlighten ?

Kick me if I'm wrong but quake3 is using opengl on our g400's right? if so, why can I use dual head in the game? I'm cloning it and outputting it to the TV.

Helm Mout, thought I'd give DualHead Clone to TV a try also. I can't seem to get rid of some translucent graphics flickering and overlaying the Q3 images on TV.

Yes...the config file does work with the TurboGL...BUT, for me, at least...I can nly run it on 32Bit...if anyone (or everyone...shows how lame I can be sometimes!!!) is running the TurboGl at 16 Bit...please let moi know HOW????
BTW...an offside...changed my FIC SD-11 (second SD-11 and third K7 mobo I have had)for a K7M yesterday and also got a K7 650 instead of the 600 I had...and BIG DIFF!!!
Not a reboot when installing 98...and so far, everyTHING seems ok!!!
Asus does seem to make a class mobo(and, in my opinion, the others are mofos...heh)
Nice to be able to use my thermistors again...

auguste - The reason for the q3config file method being more fail safe than the rename method, is because the q3config file explicitly selects the Matrox TurboGL for G400 renderer.

If you have multiple 3D accelerators installed (or driver remnants), you become dependent of enumeration order, and Q3 may select the other device instead.
In other words, the rename method only works when renaming the TurboGL dll causes the full G400 ICD to be the primary rendering device.
