  • Haig, this_idiot, anyone with a 16mg G400 or Marvel, I would love your input....

Hi im trying to resolve my problem i hope you can help me as you guys always have in the past -crossed fingers- :O)

My marvel is cool i love it, but in certain games Unreal Tournament especially (as this is the one i love) i cant play it in 32bit

I would like to find out why before i buy the game, the way i see it its one of three things..

    1: only 16mg
my card needs 32mg to handle the extra colours and textures

2: a problem with my motherboard
a Jetway BX2000 using Via 4in1 drivers (which no one else in the known world seems to have :O)

    3: Driver problem.

e.g. in Quake3test 1.08 and 5.25 drivers i couldnt run Quake3 in 32bit, same problem, runs like a slideshow and the cursor moves like treacle on the menu screen
(whats with that? it always indictaes this same slwo in game problem, it does it on UT too)

But now with 5.30 and Quake Demo i can run 1024x768 32bit all on at just under 30fps in demo1 pretty cool if i do say so myself.

so either the quake code or powerdesk changed, or maybe both?

anyhow, I love my marvel and dont want a G400/RRG combination, so if this is my fate i'll live with it

Hell UT looks good in 16bit its just something thats buggin me, but you guys know what i mean. if something doesnt woek it eats at you and you wanna know why and fix it :O)
but besides that Loadsa games coming out in the next few months use the unreal engine and id like to look forward to them knowing they'll run ok.
the Nerf 3d thingy which uses unreal Engine is exactly the same, worse now i come to think of it

    So whaddya think? code problem
Will it all go away with the next Powerdesk release (pretty please)
what about the rumoured DX-7 drivers?

Anyhow if anyone reading this can help or comment please do! If you have a 16mg G400 or a marvel (this_idiot hi :O) )
could you try UT and see how it runs if you havent already...

i mean if its my motherboard, fine ill get a new one just tell me which one :O)

anyone doing beta testing on a 16mg g400 wanna *reassure me it will be sorted
*wink, wink *nudge, nudge *say no more

    im running Win98SE
    with 128mh on a P3III450@503
for any other details i might of left out please see here
    http://forums.murc.ws/ubb/Forum4/HTML/001828.html

ive probably included them there or ask me and ill post back
(i get cack performance in NFS Road-challenge/high stakes too)
and im not even gonna try half-life till i resolve UT :O)

again thanks, I await your help......

ps should this be in hardware instead of games?

I would vote for the 16 Mb not being enough... coupled with texture management problems in the demo.

I have a Marvel G400 myself, and Unreal Tournament runs just fine in 32bit colour, at least the demo did, will try it on the original soon. Actually I just found something funny. The UT demo v348 detected my Marvel just fine, but the full release does not. It detects my Voodoo2, but not the G400.
      Wah! Wah!

i just saw this over at www.unrealtournament.com

For older, slower computers, computers with less memory or those with original TNT cards or video cards with only 16Mb of memory or less on them, you might the following:

Turn Color Depth down from 32bit to 16bit which is considerably faster than 32bit.

Reduce the World Texture Detail and Skin Detail settings. Try them on Medium and see how it runs. You can also try the Low setting.

Thats exactly what i have to do???
so i guess my prob is 16mg. but if thats the case..Leech could you please post what res and settings you are running in, if you can do it shouldt i be able to too (whine)
          :O)
what Mo Board are you using?
