  • Freespace 2 - Excellant!

    Hi,

I just wanted to share with you all that I brought Freespace 2 yesterday, and it absolutely rocks on the G400 - even with my puny AMD K6-2 400...

It's the best game I have played in ages!!!

    Cheers,

    Richie

I agree with you FS2 is gorgeous, my only complaint is the amount of HD space ~700Mb for 1024x768 - outrageous. I can't help comparing it with Wing Commander Prophecy which definately had some better looking graphics in places... large mother ships superb colour, real video sequences. I'm glad I bought both of them but fail to understand why WCP didn't do as well.

Speaking of Wing Commander, will there be a part 6?
WCP was the first of a new trilogy, or so it seemed. But I haven't seen anything of a new WC.

I thought the Roberts brothers are regarding Starlancer and Freelancer as replacement for the WC series.

I agree that Freespace 2 is a looker. It is one of the few games that truely shows off the advantage of 32bit color. Unfortunately, I am still finishing X-Wing Alliance and its ~50 missions. I can only handle one space sim with multi-key mapping at a time. Call it memory deficiency due to old age if you will.

Starlancer is coming out 1st qtr 2000. Freelancer is due out in 2nd half 2001. (http://www.gamespot.com/features/game_evol_p1/index.html)
Don't hold your breath on either as there was recent news of delays on Starlancer. They are both going to be published by Microsoft; some sort of deal Chris Robert make with the EMPIRE.

I'd suggest to keep on enjoying Freespace 2. Maybe Klingon Academy can tie us over also when it comes out within a month or so.

Well, actually, The Roberts brothers arent with Origin anymore, they didn't even do WCP.
Origin still has rights on WC.

Descent Freespace (w/1.6 3DNow! patch) and Freespace 2 are some of the best 3DNow!-enhanced games I have come across.

I don't think the Lancer twins will be anything worth buying, if you are fans of WC/FS. Apparently (according to the PC Gamer preview) the developers felt that people buying the game didn't want to be troubled with minor details, like flying the ships. They just want to blow stuff up and look at cool explosions. So instead, you get an AI pilot and you have the awesome responsibility of moving the crosshairs and pulling the trigger.
Wow, I think I played that in the arcade about 10 years ago
