Sure, EMBM is not wanted by developers. And so is T&L. And 32 bit colors, for what it matters.
Developers need 16bit colors, 256x256 textures, and motion blur.
And gamers need to spend 600$ for a video card. Sure.

Such declarations are just pure PR BS... 3DFx doesn't plan to include EMBM, so they act like it's not needeed.

Heh. I agree totally Corwin_Brute. 3DFX has always downplayed anything that they don't have the plans (or the capability) to put into their latest and greatest. I mean, what do they think, that nobody wants something that gives the same effect as super-high polygon counts without the polygons, allowing our video card (and the processor) to free more time for other stuff?

In this area, I think both nVidia and Matrox had the right idea, lowering the processor's workload. 3DFX may suffer for it, because they have to throw heapsa' horsepower at the problem to achieve the same end results (a power supply or cord just to use the V5-6K?). Oh well. They were kings once, now they just struggle to appear to be part of the elite.

Anyone buying into that "not needed" crap needs to just take one look at Slave Zero with and without EMBM. The game is not very challenging but its soo friggin beautiful you keep playing it anyway. Just watch as developers see the result when EMBM is used appropriately and you will see more and more get onboard.
You may Bitch but I'm the master.
