  • HELP!! OpenGL won't work with my G400!!

i have recently purchased a 32mb G400 (dual head) and, while it works really well in D3D, it doesn't work at all in ANY OpenGL game. Not even those OpenGL screensavers work. All that happens is i get a "this program has performed an illegal operation" error, or the game defaults to software, or my comp freezes completely .

I have cleanly re-installed windows, installed the latest bios/drivers. I have disabled Dual Head mode. I have checked, and i do have the "OpenGL32.dll" file in my Windows/System dir. I have not overclocked my card, it is runnin at the factory default setting.

    My system specs are:
*motherboard: FYI 440LX using "Award" bios.
*PII 266 ( i know its a slow CPU, but i should be upgrading fairly soon)
*64 MB RAM (hopefully getting another 64 soon)
*Aureal Vortex 2 SQ2500 sound card
    *Windows 98
    *driver version 5.41
i think thats all that counts...

i only have one PCI card installed at the moment, and it is in the furthest slot away from the AGP slot (i have 4 slots).

i have tried using the beta ICD, and i have tried OpenGL without it as well. The TurboGL is no good for me either as i don't have a PIII or an Athlon

Like i said before, D3D works really well, so i'm pretty sure its not a hardware thing.

    Here is my IRQ list:

if you know how i can somehow fix this, or have any ideas at all, please reply or e-mail me at liquid_silver@mail.com , i have tried everything, and nothing will get my OpenGL working. I'm desperate!!

    thnx in advance,

    Liquid.

God, I don't know how you managed to get Direct3D to work. Unless I'm missing something, your G400 has not been assigned an IRQ. And it could really use one.

Go into your BIOS and look for something to the effect of "Assign IRQ to VGA." Enable it.

If that doesn't work, come back. Ideally, we want to get your board on IRQ 9 or something higher.

Matrox SHOULD (and I think they may) have a "Quick-Start" card where they tell you things like that.

Your G400 will not work at all in 3D (or very very poorly on some motherboards) without an IRQ. Get one.
