Why AGP 1 only for me?

I have just loaded up the 5.41 drivers and off I went for a quick game of TFC online to be confronted with my old friend the Hard Lock up...Frustrated I rebooted the machine and checked the Registry as I had been forced to use AGP X1 in the past, found the problem to be that AGP was back at X2 again once forced back to X1 all honky dorey....Question is why do I and many others have to do this..

Noise on the AGP bus. The signal gets distorted (from whatever cause).
