  • Funky textures on walls and ceiling with Matrox G400

Why am I getting these fruity colors/corrupted textures in Quake 2? I never had this problem with my Voodoo2 card. Anyone know why and know how to fix this? Someone told me that it is the OpenGL driver.

Thank you in advance for replies!

    My system configuration:
Award Bios Intel Pentium II 300 Mhz (DFI P2XBL motherboard revision A -- 440BX 100 Mhz bus tower with 128 MB of SDRAM (PC100), ATX Full Tower Case, 300W power supply, 2 ISA, 3 PCI, 1 AGP, 1 Shared PCI/ISA Slot, 512K L2 cache, IBM P72 17" monitor (6556), Matrox Millenium G400 32 MB DualHead, Creative Labs 3D Blaster (PCI, Voodoo 2, 3Dfx, 12 MB,

Maybe you still have Voodoo OpenGL drivers floating around in your Q2 or windows/system directories?

Which files would they be? Half-Life does it too.

I'd look more at the game configuration. Both games are highly tweakable. I've seen problems like you described cleared up many times by using the right game config.

For HalfLife, edit, or create the file \halflife\valve\hw\opengl.cfg

in that file, put these lines:
        gl_ztrick "1"
        gl_dither "1"
        gl_polyoffset "2"
        gl_lightholes "1"
        gl_keeptjunctions "1"
        r_drawviewmodel "1"
        gl_keeptjunctions "1"
        r_shadows "0"
        cl_himodels "1"
        gl_texturemode "GL_LINEAR_MIPMAP_LINEAR"
        brightness "2.5"
        gamma "3.0"
        gl_playermip "0"
        gl_picmip "0"
        gl_round_down "0"
        gl_texsort "1"
        gl_overbright "1"
        scr_conspeed "8000.00"
        gl_palette_tex "1"
        r_decals "500"

For Quake2, put these in your autoexec.cfg (and the autoexec.cfg of any mods):

        set gl_particle_min_size "2"
        set gl_particle_max_size "40"
        set gl_particle_size "40"
        set gl_particle_att_a "0.01"
        set gl_particle_att_b "0.0"
        set gl_particle_att_c "0.01"
        set gl_shadows "0"
        set gl_texturemode "GL_LINEAR_MIPMAP_LINEAR"
        set gl_ext_palettedtexture "0"
        set gl_round_down "0"
        set gl_ext_gamma_control "0"
        set gl_ext_multitexture "1"
        set gl_ext_pointparameters "1"
        set gl_3dlabs_broken "0"
        set gl_dynamic "1"
        set gl_polyblend "0"
        set gl_picmip "0"
        set gl_playermip "0"
        set gl_flashblend "0"
        set gl_ext_swapinterval "1"
        set gl_swapinterval "0"
        set gl_bitdepth "0"
        set gl_ztrick "0"
        set gl_triplebuffer "1"
        set s_primary "0"
        set cl_particles "1"
        set gun_x "-3"
        set gun_y "0"
        set gun_z "3"
        set cd_nocd "1"
        set intensity "1.0"
        set vid_gamma "0.9"
        set gl_modulate "3.5"
        set gl_saturate "0"

        Good luck

Same thing. I tried that setting for Q2, and still get them. HL's problems are very rare so I have no major complaints with that.

I think I should stick with Voodoo2 card for games since games are faster than the Matrox since I cannot use TurboGL driver yet.

Sometines, if there where other command in that autoexec.cfg before (which might cause the problem), they will still be in there, in the config.cfg (which is generated by the game).

You could try to delete config.cfg, and letting the game generate a completely fresh one...
