  • half-life on g200

    Hey matrox users!
Which mode is better in g200 for half-life - d3d or ogl? Seemingly d3d is faster and better.I already have pd 5.41, dx7.

(does anyone have any tips on boosting performance for half-life on a g200?)

Maybe you will find that the OpenGL mode is faster BUT, notice carefully and you will notice that there are missing alot of things.

    Exemple:

Run a single game in OpenGL... kill a couple of bug and/or person to have a lot of blood on the wall. Shoot also bullets in wall to see thoses decals.

Then, change your video mode back to D3D and you will see the difference. All the blood and the bullets, etc... are no longer there...

    My advise:
-Single mode, use OpenGL (much better)
-Multiplayer, use D3D (faster so less lagging...)

    Hope this will help!

If the decals aren't showing up, it because the gp_polyoffset variable is off. D3D and OGL have much different requirements for this setting. With D3D, it had to be at -0.1, with OGL, it's at 2 or 3.

I suggest OGL mode for any gaming in HL. It is an OGL game (based mostly on Q2, an OGL only game). The D3D in it is not that great. And if you play TFC, or other mods at all, D3D mode will not show all of the effects that OGL will.

      Just make sure to run:
      gl_texsort "1"
in your autoexec.cfg or opengl.cfg file. This gives a big speed boost....

how does setting hl to gl_texsort 1 IMPROVE performance? - this enables brighter and more vivid textures to the game - slowing down the performance.

          It also disables multitexuring.
Try it for yourself if you don't beleive me.
