  • P-3 upgrade gains no Q3A fps!??

I replaced my P-2400 with a P-3 600. my Q3A timedemos seem to run much faster but report 28.1. I havn't reinstalled 5.41 entirely but ran the turbo gl(old and new) I think I should see a slight increase with the cpu change? Please Advise! win98se 128 mg.ram.686bx mobo. runQ3A at 1024 by 768 full bore...help Techfolk!

I believe something is wrong there. Because I run my system at 1024x768 with everything on high and reach 44fps. Make sure AGP size in the cmos is 256. Make sure nothing running in background.

We don't know what what visual settings Ralston is using. I assume he has everything jacked up. If you don't, Ralston, something is wrong.

TurboGL, as Nuno alluded to, is a speed enhancement for on-line play. I don't think Matrox intended it for people who like to push all the sliders to the max and enable every eye candy feature in the game.

If you can show us some numbers at the normal settings, at 800x600, and report your color depth, we'd have a nice generic reference point. Quake3 has a large number of tweaks to choose from, and many of them can affect performance dramatically.

Don't forget to disable Vsync (when benchmarking). If you don't, your refresh rate can become the bottleneck, and the information reported by the timedemo isn't telling you what you want to know.

Just as a point of reference, running demo001 three times, I got the following scores using the Normal settings, 800x600, 32-bit color depth/textures, Vsync disabled, sound enabled: 54.7, 55.5, 55.5.

        PIII 600 MHz
        384 Mb RAM
        Turtle Beach Montego I Xtreme
        G400 Max (PD 5.41, TurboGL 2nd Edition)
        Like Gasoline, SCSI everywhere

Gasoline: I can do about 44 fps at 1024x768 but at 16 bit. Actually if I put all to max settings in 32 bit I got like 21 fps at 1024x768 in Q3demo 1.11.
Ralston: as Paul states, that can be a perfectly normal score. It depends of the settings you have. he has a p3 600 too, use his settings and benchmark to compare.

I reinstalled 5.41 fromscratch! Now Demo 1 is 35.8fps,much better! I am running 1024 by 768,32bit color, all options I can find on! I guess just reinstalling the turbogl did not recognise my new P-3!! Thanks to all for the help and advice this year...I don't miss my sli setup one bit. Special thanks to Kruzin for his advice on My Max! oops, just realised that my 5.41 install deselected 32bit zbuffer in PD "options"!here I go again!

              Hi,
You have to reinstall the TurboGL files knowing you had a PII and now a PIII, could be that the opengl32.dll file is different.

              Cheers,
              Elie

                Hi there

At that res, the video card is more the bottleneck than the cpu. Being fill-rate limited, upgrading the cpu won´t help much. But I bet the fps went up at 640x480 and 800x600...
