problems with Directx 7.0( no A´s)

Am i going nuts or since i changed from the nice directx 6.1 to 7.0 my system frequently hangs on Iexplorer, 3d games opengl screensavers (overclocked or not)and this didn´t happen with 6.1. As anyone had this problem? if so, how did you overcome it?

Oh by the way, i don´t usually run my g400 (vannilla) overclocked but i can get it to 160 mhz no probs. Is that a goog spec or what?
