  • Q3+G400+TGL=problems, advice please?

    Hi,
    I have a
    K7-700
    Msi-6167
    G400-16
    192mb-micron-8e

The other day some family members were playing Q3 on the machine and for the most part they said it was awesome. Occasionally they would get booted out to the desktop.

Yesterday I downloaded and installed.PD5.41,turboGL(latest), new bios.
I ran the uninstall program 1st and then loaded the PD and drivers. At this point I have made the situation worse than it was. After trying to start the game I am asked to insert the cd…after I do that I get booted out to the desk top in 640x4XX and 256 color. Can someone guide me through this maze?

Try using PD 5.30 with the new TGL.

Try copying the file opengl32.dll from your windows\system folder and overwrite the one in your Quake folder. Hope this helps.

Make sure you have DX7 installed and goto your MoBos bios and set Graphics Aperture Size to 256MB.

Also do NOT use a colordepth of 24bpp, as that one is NOT hardware accelerated. (Use 16bpp or 32bpp instead)

Did you already upgrade your G400 BIOS ???
        If not, do so ...

and DON'T copy the opengl32.dll from your windows\system folder. That entirely wipes out the TurboGL (which is also named opengl32.dll). If you don't want to use TGL, delete opengl32.dll from the game's folder (but NOT from windows\system...that one is the default windows OGL stuff)

Hi, I hope I remember everything. I uninsralled 5.41 and replaced with 5.3, reinstallled turbogl, set aperture to 258,copied over the 32.dll then read the further posts and put them back as they were. No the system will start Q3 2 out of 4 times. The other two it kicks it out to the desktop. If it does start I can be playing and it will kick out to the desktop at some random time interval...any more ideas?
