  • Matrox G400 Freezes in Quake 3 Arena.. Help!

    Ok, here's my system specs:

    Athlon 500
    ASUS K7M
    128mb RAM
    Matrox G400 Video

    -------------------
Ok, in my Athlon system, I had a V770 Ultra, but it was giving me horrible frame rates in Q3, and I couldn't run with GL extensions on or else it would freeze in some maps. So I decided to go any pick up a Matrox G400, since it wasn't TNT2 based. I installed it fine, ran Quake 3 and in timedemo, I was getting like 65-70FPS, which was FINE for me. Well, I shut down my computer, and then came back to it later, fired up Quake 3, and right at the startup ID Software video, it kept just freezing. This happened EVERY time. So I tried different drivers, instead of the latest ones off of the Matrox site. I can get into Quake 3 now, but then it just freezes AFTER the startup video. What's going on here? I can play Unreal Tournament FINE! No lockups there! Guys, PLEASE HELP! THANKS IN ADVANCE!

    Hi VinY,

Okay here's a list of things to check:
Open up your case to allow the system to cool better and see if it helps,
Make sure you are using a 300W PSU that is on the approved list on AMD's site.
Make sure your desktop is set to either 16bit or 32bit,
Make sure, if you have a dual head, that you don't have the second head enabled,
Make sure that you don't have video caching or shadowing enabled in your bios.

If none of these things help, try:

Using The 5.30 drivers, download the new TurboGL, install them.
    or try forcing 1X AGP.
