i install the new drivers and select turbo gl but when i try to load up q3 it just turns back to the desktop in that funny 640x480 resolution. So i reinstalled WITHOUT selecting turbo gl and i get a VERY smooth,1024x706 game of q3.Is turbo gl that good anyway?

Sewer Rat... Getting the TurboGL drivers into Q3A is harder than Chinese arithmetic, until you 1)uninstall or rename the TurboGL driver(Opengl32.dll)in the Q3A directory. 2) Start Q3A and set to 800 X 600 X 32. 3) Exit Q3A. 4) Re-Install or rename the TurboGl driver. 5) Start Q3A and you can play at any resolution..at Setup, check "Drivers" and it will say "Matrox Turbo GL". 6)I go back after playing and reset to 800 X 600 X 32, since one time I closed out set at 1024 X 768, and it wouldn't come back up, got the funky desktop stuff again. I had honed my driver installation skills to a razors edge(HAHAHA)by then and fearlessly repeated the above process, and VIOLA!! Back to gibbin'!! 7)I don't see alot of difference, but I rarely play above 1024 X 768, but I by God wanted them in there!! Later!!!

TurboGL really gives you a boost in resolutions under 1024x768. And it really seems to give PII-based systems a monumental kick in the pants.
God, it sounds like The Sewer Rat is experiencing the old "enter and exit the game in 800x600/32-bit or else" bug.
Sewer Rat. What drivers are you using? What version of TurboGL are you using?

Do all your turboGL games crash?
I had problems with all TurboGL games crashing to the desktop at 640x480. I tried all of the suggestions that were given but to no avail. I had a problem with IRQ settings.
Go to your Device Manager in the System Properties and then goto the properties for the computer. Make sure that the G400 is on an IRQ higher than 9 and that its not being shared with any devices such as hard disks. If your G400 is not visible on this list then goto your bios and look for an option called ASSIGN IRQ TO VGA. This should be set to YES.
I don't know whether this is of any use but I hope you get your games to work soon.
