Updated D3D patch for UT !!!

D3D driver dll beta Jan 17, 1:20 AM - by Erik de Neve
We are testing a new beta of UT's DirectX7 D3D rendering interface DLL. People experiencing problems in D3D mode may want to help test it, keep in mind this is an unsupported, largely untested beta. In particular, this should allow you to run UT on certain combinations of GeForce-based cards and drivers for which the original DLL crashes shortly after 'precaching'. To install, backup the d3ddrv.dll that's in your UT system folder and replace it with this file. Feedback welcome at utbugs405@epicgames.com.

LOL, Mags - you really should know better than to start sulking when noone has replied to your post yet

Gameplay seems snappier under Win2K, but it looks like it is causing lockups after finishing a match... sometimes. I never had that before, but it could just as well be caused by the cooool skin umod's ( http://www.unreality.org/lycosv/ ) I installed today.

kewl - yes, full screen has never been a problem. UT runs very well, but maybe about 5-10 fps slower than W98.

I assume you have 'UseFullscreen=True' and the latest patch? Only thing I can think of is your monitor definition. When you try software mode (or, God forbid, OGL), is it also in a window only?

They run pretty smooth on my system and it seems that the memory consumption is also a little less than before ...

Apropos memory consumption:

I highly recommend to use the Resource Manager from Entech Taiwan !!!

I use it for defragging my memory and furthermore it seems to protect the windows swapfile from being used if not neccessary ...

Could you all try something out for me ?
[*] Launch UT[*] Alt-Tab to windowed mode[*] Launch ResMan[*] defrag memory[*] play a few rounds[*] have another look at your swap-file

...

On my system (256MB RAM plus 256MB fixed swap) even after three maps the swap file is still unused !!!

Howdie.

Tested the dll yesterday, and the flags in CTF were gone somehow, and the z-/w-buffer thingy ain´t fixed, too.

At least for me, tried every combination of colourdepth and z-buffer (16 / 32 etc.)

I am new to you forums, but have followed the posts for quite some time. Very useful-thanks much.

Epic now has a revised d3ddrv.dll patch that addresses the "Missing CTF flag phenomenom" available at their website. For what it is worth, I found the first patch kinda smoothed out the game as a whole-vague I know-initial impression...

Update -11:59 PM - This second incarnation of the beta now draws double sided actor polygons correctly - i.e. fixes the mysterious disappearance of the CTF flags!

If I understand that sentence correctly, it could also help with those invisible walls problems ...

I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but I tried out this new direct3d dll, but damn, does it look fugly. The colors all seem very washed out. I've tried turning down gamma and all that, but I must say, I'm not too impressed. I see there's a new one out, I should maybe try that one and see. Oh well...
