  • Stupid Athlon/TurboGL combo

    Ok, here's the setup:

    Athlon 650 @ 700
    G400 32mb
    Diamond MX300 Sound Card
    Generic ISA NIC
    Hauppage Tv Tuner Card
    Win98SE / Win2000 dual boot

Whenever I attempt to use the TurboGL ICD (this is with the last non-beta drivers, 5.41 or something like that) The game will boot up (somewhat) and then all I get is either a completely black screen or a flashing white screen. I can hear the cursor moving over menus and such, just can't see stuff. Lag, I believe, had this same problem. And I can't install the AGP miniport, because it causes severe conflicts with my sound card for some reason. Also, Quake3 has a tendency to just dump to desktop every so often... really gets infuriating. This is all in 98. And in 2000, opengl causes a complete system restart. Also ver irritating. Any help would be appreciated and I'll send money. (no, not really.)

I have a similar setup, and what was causing most of my problems was the MX300 drivers (I didn't even install the miniport drivers). I went ahead and installed the aureal reference drivers (35 MB) instead, and that cleared up all of my problems. After that TurboGL worked properly and I haven't had a problem since.

Give it a try and see what happens.

Diamond multimedia sucks *ss with their drivers. Each time I think that it will be OK, and I get suckered on what could have been a great product if it had drivers that worked.

Yup, your best bet is to get the latest Aureal reference drivers.

I'm glad to see that Aureal is starting to make their own cards. They've got a great chip, and they leave it to schmucks like diamond to screw it up.

I did´t even get it working with the reference drivers. I had a terratec Xlerate (Vortex 1). Had the Same problems with the AGP miniport driver (freeeezzzze). I threw out the vortex card and put in a sb live value ==> no probs anymore!!! I know this isn´t a solution for you, but I just did´t get it working with the vortex (I tried ALL drivers available.) post if you´ve found a solution to this prob
