Kruzin, if you want this on GHW, that's fine..I just thought people more experienced with PIFs would be found in Gaming.
Here's the problem. Got a couple of DOS games that I've installed through Windows (TombRaider) or through DOS but can be played through a Windows shortcut (Return To Zork). Was also hoping to create a custom MS-DOS Mode shortcut so as to leave my (surprisingly) blank config.sys that way as I re-create my system after a recent HDD crash-and-replace.
So, anyway--- whenever I try to change any properties of the PIF (or "Shortcut into MS-DOS program", for those newer to the party than Win3.1) I am informed that I "Cannot update the properties for this program. The Shortcut or PIF may be Read-Only {no, they're not!!!} or another program may be modifying them. Close all copies of this program, and then try again."
...but the program isn't running...!!!
Does anyone have a clue:

What other program might be modifying (invisibly) the PIF properties, or;
Where some other Read-only property might be set that trumps the property sheet displayed when you right-click a PIF and choose 'Properties', or display its attributes in Explorer (neither of which display the PIFs as being Read-only)???
DOS proggys are waaay too finicky to run with the default PIF, in my experience....Help!!!
