  • HL and Turbo GL??? how??

I've installed the turbo gl drivers into HL and opposing force...but how exactly do I set the game up to use them?

Should I choose "3dfx mini driver" in the game setup??? or just choose the D3D driver???

(When I choose "3dfx mini driver" everything crashes)

You should select opengl from the video options then default.

This will make turbogl work if you made everything right.

You must set agp aperture size at 128 Mo or 256.

I put the aperture size at 128M and it still crashes the same way.
(The highest number I have for Aperture size is 128)

What color depth is your desktop set to? It should be 16 or 32 NOT 24.

                  Ok...

                  I was running at 24bit...

I just tried it at 16 and 32...but I get the same problem. It crashes at the "loading".

Okay, we are part way there, now let's make sure you have TGL installed properly:

Since you are running a VIA chipset motherboard, uninstall your current drivers using the Matrox Utility, reboot into safe mode, and look in device manager for any duplicate entries or entries that are no longer valid, and remove them, especially under display adapters, reboot your system, go into your BIOS and disable AGP 2X, install PD 5.30, install the new TGL, and allow it to install into all the directories it wishes to. See how this works for ya

                    Rags

PS, also be sure that you have the latest 4in1 drivers installed for your motherboard, available from VIA.

Try setting Video BIOS Shadow: Disabled
Also as Rags says, get 4in1 drivers from VIA.

I'd also check you have latest BIOS.Make sure you have no remnants of any 3dfx drivers left if you had a 3dfx card installed before.

Half-Life's OpenGL driver options are stored in the drvmap.txt file. It's located in the gldrv subdirectory, off the c:\sierra\half-life directory (assuming installation was to the default directory).

Since I don't trust automagic install programs, and I wanted flexibility, I did the following:

                          - Found the TurboGL driver. The REAL file, not the renamed OpenGL32.dll file that the automagic install program sticks there if it finds the game (don't remember the file name, and I'm not at my computer - think its k7mgatgl.dll).

                          - Popped a copy of the file into the gldrv directory.

                          - Opened up the drvmap.txt file and added the following line:

                          k7mgatgl.dll G400 Turbo

                          - Started up HL. Went to the Config/Video/Video Modes option screen.

                          - Set HL to OpenGL mode, and selected G400 Turbo from the drop-down box on the left that lets you choose the GL driver you want to use.

                          Works fine for me now.

By the way, I found that one powerdesk version with TurboGL was installing the PIII TurboGL, not the Athlon TurboGL. That could be the problem if you're an Athlon user.

                          Just my $0.02
