  • TurboGl in Q3 not working at all?

    I have had almost perfect performance with my G400 DH nonMAX card. I use all the default clocks and have followed the natural succesion of PD drivers, currently using 5.41 without any hitches. I play UT and Q3. The TurboGl driver works fine with UT. I recently puchased Q3 and fired it up with all settings high-medium @1024x768 and got smooth performance UNTIL I began using the TurboGL driver. When I fire up Q3 I get rapidly flashing horizontal stripes or bands, no menu, no cursor, no nothing. I can hear the menu, selections from the menu and all that but all that I can see is just a bunch of flashing color (the color of the screen right befor the ID logo intro begins to play) I have no other problems- I do use the TWEAK util add-on for PD and have the usual settings;

    Disable V-sync
    Use 3Dnow
    Force AGP 2X
    Force busmastering

    My system
    AMD K6III 400mhz
    128 pc100 RAM
    Epox EMVP3M-G mobo
    Sound Blaster Live value
    Matrox G400 DH 32mg nonMAX w/default clocks

    I have traversed a mjority of the threads concernign Q3 and all the hoopla around this TurboGL dvr. I haven't read of anyone having this type of corruption with a similar setup. Anyone have any thoughts on my problem? Or is it even worth the hassel. What kind of a performance increase could I expect when switching drivers?

    On an SS7 based system, for now anyway, you will have to use the 5.3x drivers to see the TGL work properly.

    Matrox does know about this problem and is working on it but I feel that this may not be a top priority for they. The reason I say this is becuase I'am a beta tester and I can tell you that the ICD is improving, which means they are working on it and may not have the manpower to spare on the TGL. I personally am hopeing that they will soon find a way to make it even faster than the TGL, so we don't have to feel like we need the TGL just because our G400 is not as fast as the other cards when using the regular ICD. I think what a lot of ppl have failed to understand is that what Matrox is now doing with the TGL is what the other video makers have been doing all along with their ICDs. Just try running some of the more ICD dependent applications on the other cards vs G400 and you will see what I mean. Matrox's mainstay business is not in the PC gaming market so they sometimes do things that seem odd to the gamers but for them it is a good business practice. But I degressed.

    Try the 5.3x driver and see if that helps.

      Very informative. Thank you I think I'm going to abandon the TGL driver until I get an Athalon system. I running fast enough for my taste with PD 5.41. It's hard not to get caught up in the frenzy of bigger, better faster, newer.
