K6-2 is a good partner for G400?. Please, tell me!
I read many user using PIII and PII ( others Athlon )with the G400 cards. Can anyone tell me somthing about the pair K6-2 and G400 ?. Works fine ?. G400 is a good card for 3D Studio ?. Thank you. I´m waiting your opinions.
you won't have the fastest computer around, but you will have the best quality and a good gaming system, if you want a great gaming system, you'll need to upgrade to a P-3 or Athlon

that may be so anthrax233, but it is also a motherboard company that REFUSES/REFUSED to use more than 512K of cache on their boards because it wasn't a standard(from a computer salesperson who knows his stuff)...any other MB maker worth anything will offer a board that has more than 512K of cache, IMHO. my last two motherboards had 1MB and 2MB of cache respectively. I cant completely dismiss the Asus MBs though, that was the one i had before my current and previous motherboards (AOpen in case u are wondering)
Feel free to believe what u want though. back to the original question...I have a K6-2 450 with a G400 Max and it seems to run great. bye

Heh... then I'd like to know why OpenGL absolutely won't work properly when I installed a g400 on my P5a-b. If I could trade this piece of shit for something that actually works with my hardware, I'd do it in a second.
My hardware:
Matrox Millenium G400 16mb
Asus P5a-b super socket7 motherboard
K6-2 300 processor
128mb pc-100 SDRAM
My software:
Matrox bios version 1.3
Matrox drivers 5.41
TurboGL 1.0002
Motherboard bios version 1009b1
Directx version 7a
Windows version 98SE
Funny... my OpenGL works just fine and dandy on my P5A. No problems whatsoever. Don't blame the tools, Sparky.

is the G400 the first card you've had in your system, jtracy? i had a Voodoo3 before, and it burned when the heatsink fell off (i knew i should've used thermal glue). so i bought the G400, and this is what i did. i hope none of these things will offend you in any way.
<ol>[*]uninstall all old drivers from previous video cards (and all glide- and 3Dfx-related DLL files if it was a Voodoo3 or Rush, unless you currently have a V2)[*]go to http://www.asus.com and download AFLASH and the latest Asus P5A-B BIOS file (NOT the P5A, since the P5A is ATX and the P5A-B is TX)[*]set your graphics aperature size (or something like that) to 256 MB[*]make sure you have your RAM page mode/speed settings set to "By SPD" (it's more reliable and stable)[*]download the Matrox Drivers Uninstall utility and uninstall your old drivers. then download the latest ones and the TurboGL drivers. don't download the 5.50 because of all the bugs. download 5.41.008[*]if all else fails, reformat, or move to a P5A from a P5A-B. TX sucks anyways. get ATX for future upgrade compatibility.
hope this helped. again, i hope nothing offended you.

First you must quantify "won't work properly". That's far too vague for anyone to give you a meaninful answer. What do you mean by it? Is it slow? Filled with visual artifacts? Crashes? Just won't start?

After looking at your suggestions, I found that I haven't changed the RAM page mode settings. After going back to BIOS settings, I saw that it's been by SPD from the start.
The only thing I haven't tried is moving to P5A. Do you mean to flash the BIOS to P5A, or just replace the motherboard with a P5A? If it's BIOS, I had no idea that the P5A-B can use the P5A BIOS.
Yes, I am aware that AT is pretty bad, but I have 3 computers in AT cases from the pre-ATX days, including a pretty expensive one I have my stuff in now. Although I am thinking of setting up a dual-ppro server and I'll have to get an ATX for that...
... um anyway, Thanks for your help both of you. I do apreciate it when people pay attention to a problem that I have. Sorry for posting off-topic messages, though.
