  • Half-Life, Direct3D and Multiplayer

    Hi,

i am using a G400 Millenium 16Mb SH and encountered the following problem playing Half-Life in a multiplayer environment (LAN):

Under Direct3D decals (bullets holes, blood stains, tags, etc...) are not shown. This only occurs in multiplayer mods, normal HL multiplayer games are not affected. At first i concluded this would be a HL problem, and it partly is, i guess for TNT boards suffer from the same defect.

Has anybody encountered a similiar problem? And did you find a solution? Please inform me about this solution.

    BTW, my system:

    AMD K6-2@350
    128 MB
    AOpen AX59Pro (MVP3) Mobo
    AMD SCSI II Controller
    SB 128 PCI Soundcard
    Fritz! ISDN Card
    RealTek Network Controller
    Win98SE, DX7
    and of course a G400.

Any help is appreciated; kind regards
    Björn

The solution is to use OpenGL, the D3D "support" is a build in wrapper.

Yes, you should be running this game in OpenGL mode. Get the TurboGL MCD if you have not already, and drop D3D for that game.

Also, you can try to play with the "gl_polyoffset" variable in the game. In D3D mode, it should be set to "-0.01", in OGL, to around "6" or so. Adjust the numbers up and down until it looks right to you (you can do this while in the game, right from the console).

Also, check your "r_decals" value. If it is at "0", you will get no decals. set it to the max number of decals you want displayed before it starts removing older ones (try 500 or 100)
