    Hi!

How do i see the fps in quake3?

At the console type "\cg_drawfps 1". You will get an FPS counter in the upper right where the game clock used to be. As far as I know only one or the other will work.

    Happy fragging!

That's one way to do it, but the best and most accurate way to tell how many FPS you're getting is to run one of the timedemos. On the first screen after the ID logo pounds itself out, bring down the console by pressing the ~ key. Type timedemo 1, hit enter, type demo demo001 (or 002), and hit enter agin. Let the demo run. When it's done it'll spit you back to the first screen. Press the ~ key again to bring down the console. At the bottom of the console screen it will tell you your average FPS. I get 31 FPS with a PIII 667MHz CPU, 256MB RAM, G400 MAX, all SCSI drives, Win98 SE w/all updates, Tyan S1854 Trinity 400 mobo w/updated BIOS, and an SB Live! X-gamer. I'm running Q3A @ 1024x768 with all options including high quality sound set to the highest setting. The only option I don't have cranked all the way up is "geometric detail." I have that set one notch down from the top. 31 FPS sucks my enlarged white anus compared to a GeForce DDR, or even an SDR, but it's still very playable at this speed.

be sure to do that before you run the timedemo. sound has a major hit on timedemo scores and in most test you see run it is turned off.

Oops, I made a mistake. My geometric detail is at 100%. My TEXTURE detail is one notch down from the top. Sorry.

Milf: Why turn the sound off? You're going to be playing the game with sound, right? Might as well leave it on.

            Ryuhei,
Are you using 32 bit color?
On time demo 001 I get 48~49 FPS,
same settings and resolution as you
            but at 16 bit.

              I bet he's using 32-bit. Watch this:

              1024x768 32-bit, "Normal" defaults, 5.41 w/TurboGL:
              P2 400 - 31.3
              P2 468 - 31.4
              P3 600 - 31.3
              P3 672 - 31.5
              P3 702 - 31.5
              P3 744 - 31.6

              1024x768 32-bit, "Normal" defaults, 5.50 beta:
              P3 744 - 31.2

(Sound was enabled in all cases. Although I always disable sound in Quake2, it doesn't make much of a difference on my machines in Quake3.)

I just thought it was an interesting coincidence.

I use 32 bit color. I don't use the turboGL though. I've never been able to get it to work on my system. My mobo's BIOS AGP aperture size limit is 128MB. I've heard the turboGL needs an aperture size of 256MB to work properly.
