  • Alright Matrox,,what the hell happened to the patch for Wild Metal?

    Well,
I know Matrox reads this MURC board and I know they will probably not answer an E-mail When I bought my Marvel G400 they gave the game 'Wild Metal Country' in the package of utilities on a CD and was told that the company that made the game is supposed to have a patch ready son for the EBMM stuff and they had it on their web site saying coming soon. That has been since last summer. Then just a couple weeks ago that wording was taken from their web site. Then the links to the company has not worked. I think it is www.gremlin.com. But there is a link where you can download a demo of the game. I think that the company weaseled it's way out of making the patch to make the game EBM compatible and so the game that was included with the Marvel G400 left us hight and dry without what was promised. I personally think Matrox owes us another game that actually works with the features promised. That's my 2 cents. I know it is no real big deal, but I hate being lied to.

Actually, if Matrox bundles a game with one of their cards, they SHOULD be interested in where the patch is for that game. Especially since the bundled game SHOULD support the extra features of the card right out off the CD without the need for a patch. I found that having Expendable not work with my G400 MAX until the 5.5.10 drivers to be rather annoying, simply because I wanted some eye-candy to go with my new video card. The fact that it was a driver related problem made me feel better since Matrox DID fix it.

Does anyone know when or if a
      Dungeon Keeper 2 EMBM patch
      will be available?

The 1.60 patch was supposed to add this feature, but it was broken. The latest word is that the 1.7 patch WILL include Bump Mapping support, and that it's working in-house, but they are putting the patch through QA before releasing it. This was as of Feb 9th I believe it was. You may want to check www.dungeonkeeper.com for information.

I know you love to hear this but it's not Matrox fault...

          Micko,
BTW, Matrox makes Graphic cards, not games.

I'm sure Matrox is concerned. I don't think they can do anything about it. It's just OEM software, and they suffer with it along with you. Back in the days when I bought computers, and I had a problem with Windows, I didn't blame Dell.

If it's something that can be fixed with a driver update, then it's their responsibility. If it requires a patch, then it is the game manufacturer's responsibility.

It is most certainly up to Matrox to do something about it. If they are going o bundle the game with the promise of bump mapping they should get it sorted out. They must have some sort of OEM contract with the developers, they must surely have agreed as part of that to produce any such patch. Unfortunately it seems this is just typical marketing, promise the goods then fail to deliver. Do they care? I doubt it, they've already got your money.
