  • UT and OGL questions

Ok, new to UT here and while I've played all the games in D3D and a little curious on how to enable the OGL for the game, seems like it doesnt detect it on my card, something abt experimental drivers or something. Anyone know of any resource I can look into? Tips, pointers?

    Thanks.

OpenGL BAD for UT. BAD OPENGL! BAD! BAD! BAD! DIE OPENGL IN UT! DIE DIE DIE!

uhhh...yeah. OpenGL is BAD for UT. Use D3D.

Nobody wants to give him a clue? Okay. Go to the options menu. Select the video driver (mode?) button. The game will restart, showing you the video modes setup stuff (just like the original install did). Once it detects supported modes, just change the radio button selection below the list of modes to all modes. Now it'll show OpenGL, along with the others. Select OpenGL, and finish the startup. The game will use the Matrox ICD then. To try the TurboGL, just run the TurboGL manager, and check the Unreal Tournament game's checkbox in the game list to install the TurboGL. Then run the game again (it'll be using the TurboGL at this point).

To get back to D3D (believe me, you'll want to), just change the 3D acceleration mode again (back to the beginning).

Hrms..on this version I'm running, OGL isnt detected at all. Anyways, I installed TGL ver 1.0 and ran it.

Startup looks fine. Everything cool and so I went for it.

Looks good. For 1 frame. And then I moved.. Textures broke up into code like what you see on the Matrix..cool effect that may be on the movie, but definitely aint cool on my desktop..

After that the whole UT window's text got corrupted. Changed back to D3D..

Wonder if the same will be said for Q3A. Havent tested the 5.50 PD on that yet.

Well, I did say that you'd be wanting to change it back to D3D after trying it out in OpenGL mode, but your symptoms are worse than I've had. My framerate just tended to stink, otherwise the image was nice and pretty in OpenGL (ICD or TurboGL).

              Ok.. Q3A up and running..

              Timdemo 001 @ 1024 x 768 high details.

              26.7 fps with 5.50.010 ICD
              30.9 fps with TGL 1.0

Hmms...vast improvement in the ICD over the original 5.30

At least it works on Q3A. Wonder why I ended up with tex corruption in UT.. The first frame looked really really good in OGL. always preferred that over D3D.. Even homeworld looked nicer to me.
