  • Anyone have this problems with the G400?!?!?!

    Hello all -
I'm getting desperate here ... my G400 max does NOT work with my new SoundBlaster Live X-Gamer ... it doesn't matter what slot I use, or anything like that ...
when I boot with that combination, the computer acts like the video card is not even installed, even though it is! I can install the sound card, but only if the Matrox is not in the system and vice versa.

    I have a relatively new PC (PII400, 256mb) ... can ANYONE help?!?!?!

sounds like a irq conflict, try switching the sblive to the second slot next to your agp slot or the second slot next to your isa slot.

I've switched the card all over the place - no dice so far ...
I'm about to go nuts! I can't imagine a reason that this wouldn't work - I'm not installing onto an ancient machine or anything, there's plenty of power/resources, etc!!! Arrrrghh!!!!

What are your settings? (irq, etc)
          I don't know what I am missing here ...

            RNick,

Force IRQ 5 on your SBLive and make sure there are no other devices sharing your G400 IRQ. If that doesn't work, then you need to post your IRQ list so others can help.

Unless you play DOS games, you probably want to disable Soundblaster emulation in both Windows and DOS. Disable it in Windows Device Manager ("Disable in this hardware profile") and "Rem" it out in your autoexec.bat file. Is there anything else you can live without, like USB for instance (at least temporarily)?

What kind of motherboard do you have?

You might also try removing the ethernet adapter and see if it helps.

i assume your g400 works when you pulled out your sblive, what i can suggest is get another sblive to test, your irq seems ok. which version of livewire you using?

Has anyone else noticed that the SB Live card is not showing up in his IRQ list? I know that the SB16 emulation is there, but there should also be a seperate IRQ for the SB Live itself.

I figured there wasn't enough room for it.

Okay - I think at this point I've tried everything short of sending the card back ... but there is ONE more thought in my head...
In THEORY - would formatting the hard drive and doing a clean install of Win98se with the Matrox/SB config installed do the trick? Any thoughts?

I'm at a point where I just formatted the thing three weeks ago for other reasons, so I wouldn't be losing much ground ...

It could help! If there is a problem in Win98 whith the drivers of both pieces of hardware, this could be the only working solution. I'm using a K7 with a G400 Max and a CL SB Live!, everything works so good luck for the formatting and reinstalling!

The pci card in the slot under the AGP slot
has mostly the same interupt of the AGP card.

A Sblive and g400 with the same irq, don't works fine.. the system crashs sometimes.

I have installed now a network card direct under the apg slot and this card has the
same IRQ with the g400 and this is no problem.

                              My System:

                              and many more....

(i can't install more cards the slots are all full and haven't a free interupt).
