  • Q3A "Stutters" in on-line play...

    Love my MAX, but:
Q3A "stutters" and "jerks" whenever I get into an on-line match. Single player works beatifully, and all of my other games: UT, Half-Life, Q2, work very smoothly while on-line.

What gives? Any ideas? Anyone out there got any config ideas?

    Thx. Punch.

I had the SAME problem w/ all online/LAN games. The only way i could get it fixed was w/ a new (hardware) modem and a new NIC. Then i formated and re-installed windows. It works like a dream now. Try Re-installing windows, or if you have alot of time... Go into safe mode and remove ALL NIC/Modem software and try to reinstall. Also might want to reinstall Quake3 and dont use TurboGL (not worth using on a pIII really)

Well, there's also a lot more going on in online play than regular games. Your computer is sending everything you do out as well as trying to predict what everyone else is gonna do while incorporating the incoming information from other people. Gotta love dual processors... Anyway, it could have a lot to do with your connection or connection overhead on your computer. If it only happens while you are online, it could also have to do with IRQ sharing with a NIC or modem/NIC driver problems. I seriously doubt your MAX is at fault here...

If the studder coincides with spikes in the connection status box,(lower right corner) then you know it's gotta be lag!
