  • Does 5.52 drivers work w/ via chipsets?

I encountered several problems w/ opengl games such as q3a when I used the 5.41 w/ turbogl and 5.50 w/ regular icd & turbogl. Everytime I entered a gl game, the display would turn black and freeze the entire system. D3D works fine though w/ all versions of the driver. Right now I'm using the 5.30 & turbogl w/ my g400 vanilla.

Sounds like my problem ! the 5.3 drivers worked good but only with 25 Frames, the newer driver doesn´t work especially the turbo gl doesn´t work ! My system is an NMC-5VMMX VIA Chipset with AMD K6-II 450 oc to 500 mhz, 192 MB, SBLive!, G400DH-32, win98SE. I don´t have much time, but the time i have i will not spent much longer in trying new drivers ! Perhaps anyone will post a solution!

It got worse this time. Now on my Via Apollo Pro133 instead of just Opengl causing BSODs, D3D causes them too.

well, before the 5.52 powerdesk my system didnt work correctly unless i installed the 5.30 drivers, but just before the new drivers for matrox came out, i upgraded my VIA agp drivers, noticed that my system was working better, i then saw the new matrox drivers, installed them, and i havent seen any problems yet
        system specs follow:
        Tyan Trinity 2MB cache(VIA 686 MVP3 chipset) ...Win98SE, SB128

I attempted to install the latest via driver for my mainboard so that I can use the lastest matrox driver and guess what happend! The f**k'in drivers screws up my ide devices, I can't use my zip disk or dvd drive cuz it ain't detected anymore! It sumptin' to w/ the ide controller not being compatible, anyway I attempted to reinstall the old drivers, the problem still remains. And by the way q3a and other opengl games still don't work. Did anyone encounter the same problems?

By any chance, does anyone know where I can download the latest agp driver for via mb's besides their official sites since I'm having a difficult downloading it.

Anthony, hello, this is brain. via drivers can be found at www.viatech.com, or www.soyo.com.tw; im sorry, it seems soyo is down. try http://www.viatech.com/drivers/index.htm
The soyo board you have 6vba+133 absolutely requires the latest 4-in-1 driver set and it solves a lot of problems after installed, especially the mysterious irq routing problem. i know sometimes after the busnaster drivers install you may have a big problem. so in safe mode under device manager remove everything and redetect; otherwise, *gasp* re-install win98. take care

I have had the same problems that you are indicating Anthony.
I tried all the drivers (ie. 5.41 and the beta drivers) but only the 5.30 drivers were stable. Most common problem was with Q3A not loading. (Running 5.30 and the latest turboGl worked fine).

Now with the new release of 5.52 it has seemed to fix all those problems, well for me at least and I can even run my G400 @ 4xAGP mode now.

So to answer your question, Yes the PD5.52 drivers do work with the Via chipset.
