  • G400 + Voodoo2

Just installed my G400... have run it for like 15 minutes..

So, ive read a lot on this forum and seen the pictures... I was scared.

So, I fire up halflife(opengl). Hmmm... 30 fps at 800X600... not good.. but not bad..

But wait.. the image is clear.. crisp.. DARK... how do I turn the light on???

I just must say... DAMN... G400 may give me 40% of my FPS with voodoo2... but, the image quality is better than anything I ever seen... is that good. YEP.!

    What drivers are you using?
    Are you using TurboGL?

For the darkness, (and other tweaks) add these lines to half-life\valve\hw\opengl.cfg:

    gl_ztrick "1"
    gl_dither "1"
    gl_polyoffset "2"
    gl_lightholes "1"
    gl_keeptjunctions "1"
    r_drawviewmodel "1"
    r_shadows "0"
    cl_himodels "1"
    gl_texturemode "GL_LINEAR_MIPMAP_LINEAR"
    brightness "2.5"
    gamma "3.0"
    gl_playermip "0"
    gl_picmip "0"
    gl_round_down "0"
    gl_texsort "1"
    gl_overbright "1"
    gl_palette_tex "1"
    r_decals "500"

Tweak as needed. Some of these values can be set differently, depending on if you are using the ICD or TurboGL...

Oh yeah you gotta keep these things in perspective - G400 just blows away V2 quality wise. But then just about everything does

The settings relevant to brightness are:

        brightness
        gamma
        lightgamma
        texgamma
        lambert
        gl_overbright

For a serious brightness boost I suggest setting these to 5,5,1,2,-2,1 respectively. Remember to do a restart for them to take effect!

gl_texsort must also be 1 for gl_overbright to work.

        Good luck!

The ICD is only as fast as the TurboGL if youre using the latest drivers. The drivers shipped with your card are probably older. Try installing the TurboGL and see if you dont get a speed increase. You can also try installing the latest drivers, but be sure to use Matrox's driver uninstall utility first to clean out your old drivers.

I'm with everybody else. Open up Display Properties>Advanced, click on the "Information" tab, and tell us what version of PowerDesk you are using. It sounds to me like you're running a bit slow.
