  • Matrox Marvel G400-TV & Quake 3 Arena

    Hello:

I hope someone can help me out here. Q3 does not launch properly. I have read all of the Matrox FAQs and tried all of the tips (flashing the motherboard and video card BIOS, installing the most current drivers, agp mini-port, changing to 16-bit color, uninstalling and reinstalling Q3 and video drivers, most current point release of Q3, etc.).

Here's the problem. When I double-click on the icon for Q3, I briefly see the blue message window/box for Q3 flash on-screen. Then, my screen flickers while it changes resolution to 800x600 for Q3 (I normally run Windows at 1280x1024, 32-bit color). The screen turns light blue while it loads Q3. Then the Windows desktop appears. But, it's at the wrong resolution and the colors are VERY bright and washed out. Double-clicking on the Q3 icon again has the same result.

The only way I can get Q3 to run is by double-clicking on QUAKE3.EXE after going directly to the folder through My Computer. Q3 NEVER runs on the first try. When I finally do get Q3 to run, everything in the game functions normally and looks great. Also, when I exit, my Windows desktop is properly restored to the correct resolution and number of colors. Just for information, NONE of the problems exist with Q2. It has always worked fine. Q3 is the problem.

I took before and after pictures of my screen. If they would help, I will gladly send them or post them. My system specs follow. If you need any more information, please let me know.

    Thanks,
    James

Ahh easy one. To fix. Took me two weeks of trying to figure this out.

Reboot. Go into the bios. Turn off super bypass.

Where in the BIOS is this option found?

I really hope this will be a quick fix.

      Thanks,

I cannot remeber the options off hand, but it is in either the third or fourth section. You will have to scroll down to see it.
If not there, look for it. THe bios is not that big.
