  • HL w/ new TGL doesn't work (old one didn't either)

I can't get the TurboGL to work with halflife. It just shows the loading screen flickering forever. It actually loads everything else fine, I think, because I can hear the game going, just can't see it. I did set my AGP aperature to 256MB, but that didn't help anything. I think I have the latest VIA drivers and am using PD 5.5.2.

    My system: K6-2 300, Epox Mvp3g-m, 128 MB RAM, 32MB DH G400, RR-G

Try removing your drivers with the Matrox Uninstaller, then install PD 5.30.

Well to get TurboGL to work for me I took these tips from Smiff.

Rename the turbogl driver from "opengl32.dll" to "turbogl.dll"

Copy turbogl.dll into the folder \Half-Life\gldrv\

Make the file \Half-Life\gldrv\drvmap.txt not read-only

      Open drvmap.txt in notepad

Add a new line "turbogl.dll Matrox TurboGL Driver" (without the quotes)

      Close & save drvmap.txt

Start Half-Life and select "Matrox TurboGL Driver" from the list

      That worked for me,
      Good luck

          Lets look at the basics....

You must be in 16 or 32bit color. Won't work in 24bit.

The G400 must have an IRQ assigned to it. IRQ9 or higher is much preffered, and it should not be shared with anythig.

Post your complete system specs and an IRQ listing for more help...

If you're talking about the bit depth in Half-Life, I think it only does 16 bit. If you're talking about the windows bit depth, it is 16bpp.

            Specs:
            Epox mvp3g-m w/ latest VIA 4-n-1's
            128 MB PC100 SDRAM
            k6-2 300
            Maxtor 5.1 GB Primary
            Seagate 9.1 GB Secondary
            Matrox 32MB DH g400 (oem)
            Matrox RR-G Series
            Soundblaster Live! X-Gamer
            3Com 3C905B NIC
            Diamond Supramax 56k ISA Modem

            IRQ's:
            1 Keyboard
            2 Programmable Interrupt Controller
            3 Com2
            4 Com1
            5 SBLive!
            6 Floppy Controller
            7 LPT1
            8 System CMOS
            9 3C905
            10 SBLive! Emulation
            11 Matrox G400
            12 Mouse
            13 Numeric Data Processor
            14 Primary IDE
            15 Secondary IDE

            That complete enough?

I was reffering to your desktop. HL will do 32bit, but you have to force it with a command line option.

Your IRQs appear to be in line...

Does it work with the regular ICD instead of TGL? I play HL regularly, and personally prefer the built-in ICD over TurboGL for this game...

yes, it does work with the regular ICD. I just thought that the turboGL might give me some performance boost. Although, now that I think about it, it's probably asking too much for to expect anything more out of my poor old K6-2 300. Oh well. Thanks anyway.

For my System (MVP3) the following worked:
I read that WIN98SE already supports the MVP Chipset and so I deleted the viagart.vxd and the related registry entry and installed 5.52 again. Now the 5.5* ICD and also the TGL works for my system. With the viagart installed Quake3 did not work with the 5.52 ICD and the TGL didnt worked at all. I cant say if this works for your systems but it worked for mine.
